Titanic was a strong ship for several reasons. Thomas Andrews' design surpassed safety specs adding 4M pounds of steel.
The rivets, while failing during the collision, are still underrated.
Titanic historian Parks Stephenson has pointed out that there are a number of sections where rivets remain in place despite the plating deforming and twisting around them.

∙ 8y agoIt was the largest ship ever made back then and also the most luxurious not only for first class, but the second and third classes had better accommodations than other ships did back then. And it was supposed to be The Unsinkable Ship because it was designed to stay afloat if up to 4 watertight compartments were breached. But when the ship hit the iceberg, 5 compartments were breached
