How did rap evolve?

HipHop started as a sort of club/party music. Then the battle element of hiphop came and Mc's would diss each other for fun. Rappers became more political aware, and became more lyrical and began to flow. Gangsta rap was popular in the later 80's and early 90's. The mid-90's was probably the peak of HipHop with classic such as Liquid Swords, Illmatic, OBFCL2, Reasonable doubt, Ready to die and All Eyez on me being released. Rap started to become commercial, The south started taking over HipHop. Suddenly record sales mattered more than mic-skills and subject matter in the lyrics. After that HipHop died.

Rap these days is all about the bling, the money, and the weapons. But rap years ago was all about the struggle of being in the gang, being black or surviving life. It use to be street poetry, now it's commercialized A1 JUNK!!! Rap music is geared towards the masses who will eventually abandon it and label it a fad. It use to be good, now it's watered down garbage.

Rap music used to be appropriate and fun anyone could "rap". Now days it has black people singing rhyming word to a beat.....and it's not appropriate.
