When he placed an ad inviting musicians to audition for a new R&B group, Ian Stewart (another founding member) was the first to respond. Mick Jagger then joined too. Jagger brought his childhood friend Keith Richards to rehearsals, and eventually he was allowed to join. The four of them played some live shows together and then eventually settled on Bill Wyman as their bassist and Charlie Watts as their drummer.
