This truck is built exactly like GM vehicles in the collumn, It has A self cancel cam inside the collumn just below the steering wheel, Take the steering wheel off and remove the wheel lock mechanism, If you study the design you can figure out how it works,,, most parts stores have the parts you need IN STOCK, But they may not know it, most of the time the part you need to fix this is in the HELP SECTION out on sales floor,,,,,, Good luck, Jamison.
Your reverse light, neutral safety switch has a problem, remove it ( right side trans ) and take it apart ( 2-300 bucks new ) clean it and adjust it.
The headlamps on a 92 Jeep Cherokee wont turn off if the switch has failed. The switch must be replaced to restore functionality.

The switch is probably bad or you aren't turning the knob all the way off.
Both a stuck reverse switch and shorted wiring can be causes for reverse lights to stay on. Under normal circumstances, the reverse lights turn off as soon as the vehicle is shifted out of reverse.

check and make sure all the lights are on like if a turn signal is out in the front then the signal will stay on in the back when you turn the turn signal on.

There is a dashboard illumination switch that controls the brightness. If it is pushed up fully, the interior lights will stay on. Lower the switch slightly until the interior lights go off. When doors are closed, if the switch is lowered, the lights should go off after about 30 seconds max, maybe less. Hope this Helps, it did on mine.
