How do you replace an electric stove with gas?

I would say it is impossible as they work completely differently.

For one thing there are no burner holes for gas on an electric stove! The control dials will have to be changed too. I just think it would not look very good sitting in a kitchen anywhere after it has been converted from one to the other. For all the time and effort I do not think it is worth it, it would be better to go buy a used one, and one other thing you might keep the hair on your head and face when you go to test fire the converted stove.

The two systems are so different that you need a whole new range and some other work as well. To install a gas range where an electric one used to be you need a professional to run a gas line from the main natural gas line in your house to the location for the stove. You can do this yourself but to help resale value and for liability issues it is much better to have a seasoned hand do it. The professionals can provide documentation to the fact that the job was done correctly.

It is possible to convert a gas stove to an electrical stove. Not only would you need to wire the stove for electricity but you would need to have a metal worker create metal bases for the electrical elements and also arrange for some insulation. It would be more expensive than simply purchasing an electric stove. Unless the gas stove has some special design that fits in with the decor, the project would not be worthwhile.

Unless you are already a lcensed gas fitter - in which case you wouild not be asking this question here - changing over your kitchen stove from one that uses electric power to one that uses gas is not a DIY job.

You cannot do this work yourself.

The best advice anyone should give you is to call two or three licensed gas fitters to visit your home and give you written quotes to install a gas supply point in your kitchen - if there is not one there already - and for connecting and then safety-testing the gas stove.

If you use a propane tank and a separate gas stove it can be done fairly easily. Propane gas stoves hook up the same whether it's a city gas line or a tank. Main thing is you need room to put the tank. And you may need to put a bigger fan for ventilation. AND don't forget to check your local code for installing it to be sure it is legal and whether it needs to be inspected. You don't need a huge tank either. A cooking stove uses relatively little gas so just a small tank will do and can give you a month or more of cooking. In many places you can even have the gas delivered to your home.

Yes, but there is a process that will have to be reviewed prior to jumping in. It isn't that difficult to disconnect and cap off gas lines. But installing new electrics, particularly a large load like a range, might cause you some headaches. If the current kitchen wiring did not include provisions for a big load like the range, you'll have to pull the wires. And adding a breaker set to the mains panel won't be cool if your house service is insufficient or underrated for a load like this. This ain't no slam dunk. Only a professional electrician is qualified to make the call in this instance. There is no room for do-it-yourself shortcuts here. You can damage your range, start an electrical fire (possibly injuring or killing anyone home), or send yourself into the next life by getting across and becoming part of an electrical circuit.
