Indoors within a properly insulated area, away from any water sources and electrical conductors.

MORE CANT HURT ...

Tall, pointy objects standing alone in an open space are more likely to get struck by lightning but it's by no means a certainty. Sometimes the flat ground next to a tall tree can be hit. A car or other enclosed metal structure is the safest place to be in a thunderstorm. Failing that, a ditch, trench or group of shrubs of uniform height is better than nothing. Keep away from boundary areas between dissimilar terrain (water and land; rock and earth; trees and fields). Also keep at least five metres away from metal objects or other people as lightning will often jump from one object to another.

first of all why would you hide in a thunder storm??

but if your seriously scared of them your not the only one in the world, but if your home alone call your parents to warn them your frightened, they will tell you what to do, if they can't help you here are rules to follow:

1. stay away from windows

2.don't jump around near the ceiling

3.don't go to close to the walls it's okay if your near them i think about 10% of people got hurt.

4.@ your camper close the tarp

and 5. if your out side walking back home and the news announced rain or thunder storms and you bring an umbrella do not ever open your umbrella unless it's rain

I hope it will or helped you lots :)

Your house. Every home in America has an Earth ground - so if lightning strikes it there is a good chance that it will flow strait to the ground. In most residential districts power lines are also higher and more conductive than homes making them more attractive to static electric charge.

If you're caught outside your home a car is a safe place since it resembles something called a Faraday cage. A Faraday cage is a cage made out of metal (or other conducting) mesh; when lightning hits it the charge is dissipated around the enclosure and the interior of the cage remains void of charge. The car reacts in the same way thanks to its steel frame and body.

Contrary to popular belief the rubber tires do not somehow protect you. Rubber is in fact an insulator and does not provide a good ground between the car and the Earth. In fact, it is quite possible that the car, after being struck by lighting, will hold the charge for quite some time. Thus it could be dangerous for you to exit the vehicle for some time after the lightning strikes.

In a thunder storm most places are reasonably safe. One of the safest places to be are either inside a car or inside a building with a lightning rod. This is because if lightning were to strike where you were, it would not affect you. One of the least safest places to be is either out in an open, low field or under a tree. If you find yourself stuck in a field and do not want to risk it, lying down is the best option as lightning normally strikes the tallest thing. Also being under a tree means that you have the risk of the tree being hit, meaning flying bark could hit you or the tree could fall ontop of you. Hope this helps :D

The safest place to be if you are stuck outside during a thunderstorm is your car. Keep the windows up and just wait the storm(s) out. If no car is available, then try to get into a low lying area (NO TREE'S OR OPEN FIELDS). Lightning is attracted to open fields, metal, water, and high objects.
