How old is my Topper 88 HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON GUN serial number
TOPPER MODEL HISTORY The Topper name was applied to a large series of single barrel shotguns therefore there were several different models that used the Topper name starting with the Model 48 in 1943 and continuing through the early Model 058/098. All other single barrel shotguns are variations of these basic models except for the Hammerless Model manufactured between 1925 and 1942. The Topper name was last used in the 1974 catalog. The Model 088 was actually introduced in 1979 but did not become the main line model until 1982. The Topper name has also been used by New England Firearms and H&R 1871 after the purchase by Marlin the 20, 28 and 410 bore, side lever break over, jr version of model 158, 26" barrel, rebounding hammer, 3pc. breakdown, case hardened frame, walnut stained pistol grip hardwood stock, semi-beavertail forearm, vent. rubber recoil pad, short LOP 5lbs were built from 1961 until 1983. this gun will generally reatail used for under $100. thats a real answer
Since it has a serial number, it was made after 1968. They were made at least through the 1990's, but I know of no source of serial number dating info for recent H&R guns. * Harrington & Richardson manufactured the shotgun in 1974.
Since you do not say, whether your Harrington & Richardson is a pistol, rifle or shotgun and you do not show a letter prefix to the serial number, I can only give you limited information based on a Model 48 Topper Single Shot Shotgun which was manufactured for a period of 14 years between 1943 and 1956. I hope this helps, until you can supply more information on your shotgun.
