Professor Gerald wanted to create the Ultimate Life form, and Black Doom wanted the Chaos Emeralds so he can destroy the Earth. So they Created Shadow to do both of their goals. the fact the he looks like Sonic is unexplained. but most likely it's just a coincidence. I am talking about the storyline though, other wise, yes, he is an antagonistic copy of sonic.
