A:Sir Thomas More wrote Utopia, a novel about a mythical kingdom where all were free to hold such beliefs as they wished, as long as they believed in a supreme being. Yet within just a few years, he became a harsh persecutor of those he regarded as heretics against the Catholic Church.

Towards heresy More was relentlessly punitive. He wrote, in the Dialogue, that it was lawful, necessary and beneficial to burn heretics. Ironically, he himself was later executed for his own beliefs as a Catholic in Protestant England.
