The Book of Mormon centers around two groups of people, the Nephites and the Lamanites. These groups descended from the sons of Lehi, an ancient prophet who traveled from Jerusalem to the Americas in about 600 BC. The Lamanites are generally wicked, while the Nephites are generally righteous. The Nephites followed the Law of Moses and had prophets which wrote what is now the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon describes Jesus Christ visiting the Nephites shortly after His Ascension. A few hundred years later, the Nephites became prideful and were completely wiped out by the Lamanites in battle.
