The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or more specifically Pastafarianism, is a movement that promotes a satirical viewpoint on religion and opposes the concept of intelligent design.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) was first conceived by Bobby Henderson in 2005 in a lettered protest against the Kansas State Board of Education's decision to force schools in Kansas to allocate equal time teaching intelligent design in the science curriculum as an alternative to biological evolution.

Originally a private letter detailing circular logic and ironic hypocrisy, Henderson soon released the letter to the public on his website, which garnered international attention. "Pastafarianism" was widely acclaimed as light-hearted humor that gave question to the ideologies of religion.

For example, one such point that Henderson made was that, because one cannot see the carbohydrate-based deity that supposedly created the world in a fit of drunken stupor, it must be real. This runs parallel to many monotheistic religions and parodies their ideolgical belief that God is an invisible entity that has not been seen but created the world through intelligent design, and must be real.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is often mentioned in conjunction with the Invisible Pink Unicorn, the goddess of another parody religion that plays on the paradox of an entity that is both invisible and pink at the same time.
