It was through their faith in Christ and The Bible that they believed in the freedom to worship God according to the dictates of ones own conscience.

It also influenced the Declaration of Independence when Thomas Jefferson wrote people are "endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights"

The religious, biblical faith of the founders in the New England colonies is also why today it is the custom for those taking the oath for political office to put their right hand on the bible and end saying "So help me God."

The laws of the U.S. are based upon Judeo-Christian laws (as opposed to Muslim, sharia law or other religious laws.) This came from the faith of Americas founders. When New England was first settled the Puritans played a huge role in the governing and laws. While the Puritans were split into many factions, their religiously devout views as a whole informed all of those laws and decisions.
