What was st Norbert's attitude towards life when he was a young man?

Although St. Norbert became very religious later in life, when he was a young man he was the opposite. He was involved in the hierarchy of the church, but at the time that was more of a privilege of being born into a noble family than anything to do with personal holiness or choice. His parents were related the imperial house of Germany. He avoided being ordained a priest for quite awhile, and even turned down a prestigious opportunity to be a bishop. Around 1114 AD, however, he had a near fatal accident with a horse, and had a religious conversion. He renounced his position in the nobility and was soon ordained as a priest. He eventually founded a monastic order.
