From Luke 2, New International Version--

The Boy Jesus at the Temple 41Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. 42When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom. 43After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you." 49"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?" 50But they did not understand what he was saying to them. 51Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

According to Matthew's gospel, they arrived around 2 years after Jesus was born. On arriving at Jerusalem, they questioned Herod as to his whereabouts, whose advisers confirmed that he had been born in Bethlehem.

Again, according to matthew's gospel, on arriving at Bethlehem, they found Jesus in a house, as by then Mary and Joseph had settled for a while in Bethlehem.

In order to kill Jesus Herod ordered the death of all boys 2 years old and younger in accordance with the time Jesus was born. To escape death, Joseph, Mary and Jesus fled to Egypt and after the king died went back to nazareth in the north of the country in an area called Galilee.

ANSWER

Jesus was born in a humble stable, into a poor family(Luke 2:61). Simple shepherds were the first witnesses to this event. In this poverty heaven's glory was made manifest(Luke 2:8-20) The Church never tires of singing the glory of this night:

The Virgin today brings into the world the Eternal
And the earth offers a cave to the Inaccessible.
The angels and shepherds praise him
And the magi advance with the star,
For you are born for us,
Little Child, God eternal!

When Jesus was twelve years old, he and his family attended the Passover festival in Jerusalem. When it was over and everyone started home, Jesus could not be found in the group. After returning to Jerusalem, and searching for three days, Mary and Joseph finally found him in the temple discussing spiritual questions with the religious leaders.(Luke 2:41-46)
