It all depends on what religion you are. I'm a Christian so I go to a church. Many believe that you can worship God at any meeting place. After all the people are the church, without the people it is just an empty building and a building is all you need.
People worship according to their beliefs and understandings. The methods of worship differs. Some religions allow people to worship different deities, different form of statues etc. Islam only insists worshiping of only one God Allah, and prohibited worshiping any thing other than Allah .

There is no one particular place in a church to worship! If your church is a church that belives in the true Gospel of God, Gods presents will be there in the whole building. A church is a temple of god, which is why we go to church on Sunday, to be in his presents!
The answer depends on semantics.

A temple (from the Latin word templum) is a structure reserved for religious or spiritual activities, such as prayer and sacrifice, or analogous rites. Mormons, Buddhists
A synagogue, also spelled synagog (from Greek) meaning "assembly". House of prayer. Jewish.
