Salmonella is a common disease passed between animals and humans. One thing that most people do not realize is that all reptiles carry Salmonella in their fecal matter. It is a naturally occurring parasite that aids in food dIgestion.
Well - it's been discovered that reptiles carry the Salmonella bacteria. This has no detrimental effect on the reptile concerned, but it can be passed to humans. Usually this is not serious - HOWEVER - simple hygiene practices after handling can eliminate any risks. I've been keeping reptiles for over 25 years, and have never contracted Salmonella from any of my animals !
No but you can get sick from germs and other things that the iguana may carry. The same can also be said for cats, dogs, humans, inanimate objects like rocks, etc. (yes, you can catch something from your cat). Germs, bacteria, and the like are everywhere. Most of these are not harmful, so don't worry too much. These germs are that which makes you sick, not the iguana. Blame the germ, not the carrier. Wash your hands often and you've got nothing to worry about.
All animals have diseases specific to their species.
you can get salmonella...
hives
It is very unlikely for a human to contract disease from direct contact with canine blood.
