Can Morse Code actually be transmitted by knocking as is shown in several movies?
Of course. Since Morse code is just a series of long and short signals, you could knock at irregular intervals. Think of knocking out the rhythm of a song and you would see what I mean. Or SOS, like this: SOS = (knockknockknock knock--knock--knock---knockknockknock) Morse Code depends on the signal (knock) itself varying in duration. The pause after the knock has its own significance, separating letters, words, or sentences, depending on the length of the pause. The pauses in between the knocks would be interpreted as character breaks. Instead of three dashes, the "knock--knock--knock" in the middle of your SOS example would be received as three separate one-dot characters. A single dot represents E in Morse Code. Thus, your SOS message becomes "SEEES".

What is a carrier reinsertion oscillator?
A carrier reinsertion oscillator is an electronic circuit used in a radio receiver that is designed to receive single side band carried suppressed radio transmissions.
As suggested by the name, in a single side band carried suppressed signal, the carrier signal is suppressed (not transmitted) to save power and/or bandwidth.
Before the single side band carried suppressed signal can be decoded to extract the original audio signal, the carrier must first be reinserted. This must be done accurately, otherwise the recovered audio signal will be unintelligible.

Why won't my Verizon texts send to ATT?
I have had this problem frequently in the past and haven't gotten much of a straight answer from Verizon who I use for my carrier. The best explanation I've gotten is that since Verizon and AT&T are two different wireless standards (CDMA vs. GSM) text messages cannot be sent directly from one phone to another without first being translated. I was told that there are large servers somewhere that do the work of translating the text messages and sometimes get backed up, usually depending on the time of day. Sometimes the translating servers get so backed up that they just start to drop certain messages and so they get lost, never to be delivered. I'm unsure of how true this is, but it sounded reasonable enough to me, I heard it from an employee of a Verizon store who said he sees the problem frequently. As far as I'm concerned, it's beyond frustrating and something that needs to be fixed ASAP. It's pretty stupid that I pay for text messaging that I can't really use whenever I need it. If anyone else knows something about this, please let us all know. Thanks!
