It stands for Common Era, and is one half of a system of measuring time - the opposite is BCE, which means Before Common Era. It is gradually replacing BC and AD as a way of classifying years. The present year is 2011 CE.

It can also stand for "Christian Era;" perhaps more accurately. There was no sudden commonality in the world at 1CE.

How can you make an albanian family like you?

There are some cultures where they prefer their teens or older children to date or marry into their own culture and if their children refuse then it's going to take some doing by the intruder into the family to win them over, but it can be done. To please. Be polite, genuine in trying to get to know them because if you aren't genuine they'll know it and ignore you. Get on the Internet and read up on the culture so you know how to treat the family. For instance, Chinese prefer fruit to flowers, while other cultures love flowers. The more you understand the culture the more you'll understand their ways and what you may think is the fact you aren't fitting in may not be the case at all. Although being polite NEVER be afraid to speak your mind if you feel you are being treated in a rude manner. Most cultures are high on manners and would be devastated should one of their own be out and out rude.

How to Make Traditional Ambrosia Salad this Holiday Season?

Ever wondered about all those sweet offerings on your holiday table? You know, the sweet potatoes swimming in a brown sugar glaze and topped with a pillow of marshmallows, or the cranberry sauce with just a hint of orange to add zest to the sweet/tart flavor of the cranberries. There's a long tradition of serving sweet dishes along with the traditional fowl, ham, stuffing and mashed potatoes of a large holiday mean. Of all the sweet indulgences on your table this holiday season, the ambrosia salad is arguably the most colorful and festive, though.

Although individual recipes vary, this sweet fruit salad looks as good as it tastes. Food historians believe Americans started serving sweet fruit salads, the precursors of the modern ambrosia salad, around the mid19th century. The ambrosia salad itself was first created a little later, probably at the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century. It was distinguished by the addition of that most exotic of ingredients -- coconut, which was becoming more abundant in the U.S. It gave the salad a distinctive texture that still managed to showcase the flavors of the individual fruits. Care to guess the first cousin of the ambrosia salad? We'll give you a hint. It contains both apples and raisins. If you guessed the Waldorf salad, you're right.

In the 1930s, exotic ingredients like pineapple, bananas and coconut were hugely popular. Since many ambrosia salad recipes contain all three ingredients, it's no surprise ambrosia salad started appearing in many of the recipe books of the period and later.

If you plan on making a traditional ambrosia salad this year, you'll achieve the best results by reserving the bananas and preparing the recipe a day ahead. Just before serving, fold in the bananas. They'll retain their texture, and the sauce will be rich and flavorful from having had time to mellow.

Here's a simple but classic ambrosia salad recipe you'll want to use year after year.

Classic Ambrosia Salad Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 can mandarin oranges, drained (about 11 oz.)

  • 1 cup marshmallows (miniatures)

Traditional and Tasy Monkey Bread Recipe?

Monkey Bread is a traditional dessert that has been served for as long as most people can remember. Children and adults seem to absolutely love this dish, especially because it has the perfect combination of textures and flavors. Monkey Bread not only tastes delicious, it is also a whole lot of fun to make. The first step to making this dish is to have all the right ingredients. The follow ingredients are a must have or this dessert:

  • 3 cans of jumbo canned biscuits (refrigerated)
  • 1 _ cups brown sugar
  • _ cup of butter
  • 1 tablespoon regular sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
  • _ cup crushed nuts
  • _ cup raisins

The first step to creating this dish is to set the oven to 350 degrees F and allow for the oven to heat up. In the meantime, the person making the dish can grab a tube pan and spray some non-stick cooking spray into the pan. While the oven continues to heat up, the traditional white sugar and the cinnamon can be combined together in a small mixing bowl. After this is completed, each individual biscuit that comes out of the can will need to be cut into quarters. The quarter-cut biscuits can then be placed in the mixing bowl with the cinnamon and white sugar.

After all of the biscuits have been placed into the sugar, they can then be moved into the tube pan with the non-stick cooking spray. All of the pieces should be placed on top of one another in the pan. The raisins and crushed nuts can also be sprinkled in between the biscuits at this point in time. Once everything is arranged in the pan, it should be set aside. A small pot should be placed on the oven and used for melting the butter and brown sugar together. The consistency needs to boil for just about 30 seconds. Once it boils for a bit, it can be poured onto the biscuits in the tube pan and the tube pan can be placed in the oven. The Monkey Bread needs to bake in the oven for around 30-40 minutes. It should also cool off before being eaten.

Make Sushi at Home in No Time?

Sushi is a delectable, healthy treat that you can make at home at a fraction of the cost of going out to a sushi bar. Once the basic process is understood, there are many possibilities to experiment with ingredients that will rarely be found in a sushi establishment. The most popular form of sushi in the West is the California roll. The recipe is extremely versatile, and the resulting sushi will be completely safe for consumption even by pregnant women.

California Roll Ingredients and Equipment

You will need 2-3 sheets of Nori per roll. The other ingredients include 2 cups of sushi rice, white or black sesame seeds, and the fillings. Traditional fillings for a California roll are imitation crab sticks, cucumber, and avocado. The sticks will already be prepared in the right size, but cucumber and avocado will need to be sliced into thin, long sticks.

The only equipment you will need is a sharp knife and a sheet of wax paper. A bamboo mat is optional, though it will make crafting a proportional roll much easier for first-time, sushi chefs.

Steps to crafting a California Roll
  1. Split Nori sheets in half. Lay the halves out on wax paper covering the bamboo mat to make the desired length, but be sure to make them overlap an inch or so.
  2. Place a layer of rice on top of the Nori. It should be thin enough to stick evenly.
  3. Flip the Nori over, so rice is underneath. Place fillings lengthwise in the middle.
  4. Roll it up. This takes practice, but the general rule is to make the roll tighter as you go.
  5. Squeeze until the roll sticks together on its own. Cut and serve. For delayed serving, be sure to sprinkle some lemon juice on the avocado to preserve freshness.
Experimenting with the Recipe

Sushi rice is chosen, because it cooks into a very sticky form perfect for holding the roll together. If you can find it, purple rice is just as sticky and will add more flair to the roll. There are other types of sticky rice, generally short-grain varieties, to experiment with. Short-grain, brown rice is the healthiest and has become a popular sushi rice.

You can use any filling you want, however, and some popular choices include pineapple, celery, carrot, and eggplant. Basically anything that can be shaved to a thin size and eaten raw is a fine choice for experimenting!
