In the past, they painted in caves to show what they needed, or what they hoped for. They mainly painted before a hunt, to 'show' their gods what, as I already wrote, they hoped that would happen. The pictures that were found were mainly about people killing animals, their hand-prints or paintings of themselves.

People painted in caves to leave a story behind and they used it as a a record. They had to use berries and other things to use as paint because they did not have paper and writing utensils it was the only way to leave behind a story.

Culture is primarily divided into two major components: 1) the material or physical aspects of culture, and 2) the immaterial or symbolic aspects of culture. The two influence each other in diverse ways.

Culture is so well internalized that it appears to be "second nature" or "inherent" but all aspects of culture are socially constructed, that is, negotiated by and between individuals in the context of communities and societies as well as the time period. Culture is not static, but in a constant state of flux, with change occuring at different rates depending upon the aspect of culture observed.

Focused on subjectivity

Byzantine artist favored the hieratic style because religious figures were not real, therefore it makes sense to portray them in a non-naturalistic manner. This style was not iconic. It could exist to the iconoclastic Byzantine Period.

Rococo art focuses on the lavishness and indulgence of the artistocracy. Paintings are whimsical and have recognizable (and overt) erotic themes. Use of pastel colors and flowing brushstrokes was also popular.

Rococo is a style of 18th century French art and interior design. Rococo rooms were designed as total works of art with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, ornamental mirrors, and tapestry complementing architecture, reliefs, and wall paintings. Painters used delicate colors and curving forms. Some works show a sort of naughtiness.

Modern art is art that fits into a period of time in the 20th century, usually divided into art before WW II and art after. Inclusive in this period are sub sections like Dadaism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Cubism. Art produced currently is termed as Post-Modernism.
