Why would acetaminophen be recommended for use rather than aspirin?
Acetaminophen has many uses, most as a pain killer, as for my chronic back condition. But before you take it ask a pharmacist what would be the best treatment for the condition that is bothering you, or your family Doctor.
Csn you take Tylenol with aspirin?
Apparently so, since the active ingredient in Tylenol, acetaminophen, is used in combination with aspirin, in Anacin Advanced (250 mg acetaminophen, 250 mg aspirin and 65 mg caffeine.) sources - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anacin http://www.anacin.com/anacin-advanced-headache-formula.cfm
Can you give baby aspirin to babies at 9 months of age?
No. Aspirin is not recommended for infants or toddlers due to the risk of developing Reye's Syndrome.
No, it is readily available over the counter.
Do note that some schools have a zero tolerance for any drug, even over the counter items. Make sure you know what the rules are and do not violate them. There have been people expelled for giving their friend an aspirin or midol.
Can asthma patients take aspirin?
Yes, in fact it should be recommended as COPD patients are at risk for thrombotic events and aspirin can help prevent this.
How long should you wait after alcohol before driving?
It depends on how long you took to drink them, but for 1 drink an hour, about an hour after the last drink. There is no accurate way to estimate this without knowing specifics, and there is no "rule of thumb."
Aspirin is an example of this type of drug?
Aspirin and ibuprofen are Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (or NSAIDs)
How does Aleve interact with aspirin?
Aleve™ is a brand name for the drug naproxen, which is classified as a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID for short). Both aspirin and naproxen can thin the blood; this effect is synergistic when the two are taken together. The combination can also irritate the stomach lining, especially when taken without food. That said, most people aren't going to suffer any serious consequences if they take an aspirin within the same 24-hour timeframe as a naproxen tablet. The two do the same thing in a similar way, which is why combining them (or taking them concurrently) doesn't make much sense. === === As mentioned above, both of these meds are gastrointenstinal irritants. That, combined with their platelet inhibiting function make them potentially dangerous when taken together, especially for patients with a history of ulcers or GI bleeds. Do not take these two meds together on an ongoing basis. If you experience stomach pains, heartburn, tarry or black stools, coffee ground vomiting or blood in your stool or vomit, discontinue both these meds at once and head for the ER. Both are serious GI irritants, and aspirin is a blood thinner, inhibiting platelet action and clotting factor. There is therefore a notable risk of GI hemorrhage with this drug combination. While not nearly as lethal as the famous barbituate/alcohol combination, serious counterindications still exist. I would talk to my doc about other painkiller/anti-inflamatory combinations that don't present this risk picture. I would also NOT take this combination myself.
Where does the word Aspirin come from?
Aspirin was originally made from certain flowering plants, like willow trees. In 1827, a Spanish noblewoman discovered this from bringing willow bark back from a Spanish expedition, and was named after her, as Cinchona.
I think it all depends on the person, and if that women drinks a certain amount it can cause mental retardation and/or other birth defects. Please ask your doctor and dont be shy, you are showing concern. :)
Why is titration method applicable in aspirin analysis?
When I am using back titration and direct titration as my two methods for determining the purity of aspirin tablets. doesn't the direct titration not take into consideration of the excess sodium hydroxide added to the aspirin?
In both these titrations when I reach the end-point it turns pink but I kept these solution the next day and they turned back to colourless. Is this meant to happen and what chemical reaction has happened here?
I titrated this again with more sodium hydroxide till the end-point then added this to the overall amount of NaOH i added in the flask.
Is the only difference between back titration and direct titration not addding the HCl at the end to determine the excess amount of NaOH?
Are there any methods for direct titration.
Would really appreciate any help.
The best you can obtain is an end point lasting 20-30 seconds. Any excess base will slowly hydrolyze the ester and liberate acetate ion from the act's because aspirin is such a weak acid that it reacts slowly with the NaOH, making it difficult to accurately get a good endpoint in a reasonable time.
With back titration, you react with an excess of NaOH (known amount), heat it to make the reaction go to completion quickly, then use HCl to determine the amount of NaOH that is remaining. This reaction will go quickly, and is much easier to measure.elylsalicylic acid, aspirin.
Ideally you should wait until your period is late, that would assure a most accurate test, that being said, the stress of not knowing can sometimes get to you, there are certain tests on the market that allow you to test up to 4 days before your period is due, but if you get a negative, there still is a chance you may be pregnant and it's just too early to tell..

What kind of aspirin should you give your dog?
You must ask your vet. It's not wise to medicate your pet without consulting an expert. Some people will say that aspirin is fine for your dog, and while it may not knock him over dead (I hope) it may not be the best thing for him. IF THE ANIMAL IS IN PAIN HE MUST BE TAKEN TO THE VET. It is your responsibility as a pet owner to insure that your pet is comfortable and provided for. Do not wait until it is more convenient for you or whatever other excuses people come up with. Do NOT wait for it to become an emergency situation. This will only end up costing you more money and inconvenience.
If the vet gives you the okay, then go ahead and do as he says. 325mg once a day is normal dosage for a healthy, medium-to-large dog. However, once the dog has gotten some relief I recommend asking more questions and doing your own research, then asking your vet what he thinks about other solutions you've come up with. For example, my vet placed my dog on a medication regimen consisting of Rimadyl in the morning and aspirin before bed. I complied with this, then researched the drugs and other options available. As it turns out, the rimadyl is bad for the dog's liver (he's supposed to be on it indefinitely for hip dysplasia, a degenerative condition) and aspirin is questionable also. I know my vet's a good guy, he just did the best thing to get rid of the pain as soon as possible and that's important. So I talked to my him about my concerns and he gave me a drug-free dietary supplement that has done more for my dog's joint pain than both medications combined. He only takes the medication on his rare bad days now, as opposed to every day.
The moral of the story is: Ask Questions, Do your own Research, and above all DON'T give your pet anything that could make him worse off. Follow your vet's instructions, take good care of the dog, and be involved in the solution.
Is aspirin acidic basic or neutral?
aspirin is an acid... aspirins chemical name is acetylsalicylic acid
Is it harmful to take Advil and low dose aspirin together?
Not at all because a mix can make one stronger & they will not work so good
1/4th of a baby aspirin every 72 hours is ok. But, ask your veterinarian before you do this. You can call any veterinarian clinic to get an answer and someone should be able to answer your question over the phone about this subject.
Can a small dog have aspirin for pain?
No, dogs (especially small dogs) should not have Advil.
Please speak to your vet if your animal requires pain relief.
Advil is a brand of ibuprofen - a drug that can cause side effects (ranging from vomiting and diarrhoea to acute renal failure) at relatively low doses in dogs.
Why do you have to take aspirin doses at regular time intervals?
if not taken regularly the medicine will not work properly
Should you take aspirin that smells like vinegar?
Aspirin & Vinegar both contain salicylates. Combining the two could actually be dangerous to someone with a salicylate allergy.
Why does cold water make aspirin crystallize?
Aspirin dissolves in warm water. If cold water is used, that will give a maximum yield.
