Who did President Obama run against?

In 2011-12, the Republican candidates included Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Mitt Romney. Romney won the nomination, after a long primary season in which there were other candidates who dropped out one by one (Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, etc). So in this election, the president is running for re-election, and Mitt Romney will be his opponent.

In 2007-2008, Barack Obama was a candidate and he faced a strong challenge from his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, before winning the nomination. His Republican opponent was Senator John McCain. Also running were several third party candidates, such as Ralph Nader and Bob Barr. McCain and Obama faced off in the election, and ultimately, Obama won.

Why did upper class people fear Jackson becoming president?

Jackson was the son of poor immigrants from Ireland, had little formal education and lived on the frontier in Western Tennessee. Upper class people were uncertain of what he might do if he became president and his Western friends and supporters took on positions of power in the government. I think people always tend to fear change even if they are not sure that it will be harmful. In fact there is an expression: "A known evil is better than than an unknown good,".

When Barack Obama was running for president at a campaign stop he tried to bowl something he isn't very good at The media loved it because he threw a gutter ball while they were all watching This?

Sad to say, in modern politics, a candidate or a president who makes a mistake while speaking (called a "gaffe") or who does something that doesn't turn out well (like being a poor bowler, or missing an easy putt on the golf course) will end up in the news. This one can apply to both Democrats and Republicans: "gotcha" journalism, catching a politician making an unintentional mistake, seems to be very common. I am not sure what the news value of it is-- so Mr. Obama can't bowl, or some other candidate is not the greatest (pick one) dancer, golfer, cook, whatever. I suppose the point is that the person is only human, but sometimes, these sorts of media reports come out looking a bit mean-spirited.

How many years has Barack Obama ruled?

Barack Obama is a president, not a king, so we do not say he has "ruled." Rather, we say he has been "in office." President Obama has been in office since he was elected: he won the election in November 2008 and was inaugurated in January 2009. American presidents serve a four year term, and then they can be re-elected for a second four-year term. Mr. Obama was re-elected in November 2012, so he will serve four more years in office.

Is Barack Obama a celebrity?

Yes and no. Some of his political opponents accuse him of that term, saying he hangs around with Hollywood stars and spends too much time with the rich and famous. This is a political accusation, however. Mr. Obama spends most of his time governing, and performing the duties of the president, as he was elected to do.

On the other hand, there may be some truth to the description. Since he is the first black president, and since he is also photogenic, Mr. Obama is often on TV. Further, he has developed a good relationship with a number of professional athletes, actors and actresses, and music industry stars, who supported his campaign and became friendly with him. It should be noted, according to the reporters who know him, that he does not consider himself a celebrity. But because he is well-known all over the world, and because he is also popular with a majority of the public, some people do think of him in that way.
