Why is a DVD able to store 4.3GB of data even though it is the size of a normal CD?
Single layer recordable DVD's can store 4.3GB of data. Data is stored on CD's and DVD's via reflective and non reflective pits on the surface of the media. These "dots" are much smaller on DVD's which gives you more room to store information on the surface of the disc. Dual Layer DVDs hold 8.5GB. The pits on a DVD are much smaller and closer together than those on a CD. The new BlueRay disks can pack the pits even closer together because the blue light used to read them has a smaller wavelength and hence is able to resolve smaller details on a disks surface. CDs are read by a red or infrared light which has a much longer wavelength and is not able to resolve smaller pits on a disks surface.
Cd player in 1997 acura tl displays error and wont play can this be fixed?
Try another CD, if you still get the same error it would be cheaper to just replace the CD player rather than have it fixed
The conventional wisdom is that these CD players weren't built to last, which seems a bit odd, considering that the rest of the radio seems to last forever. Never seen a unit of this vintage (including my own) that plays CD's.
A word to the wise: if you enjoy listening to the radio and intend to use the factory antenna, be very careful about which aftermarket radio you buy -- the antenna is extremely low-gain, and needs to be coupled to a radio with a really good RF amplifier. Try to either road-test friends' radios for reception ability, or pick the radio in the store display that tunes in clearest. I picked a really nice Clarion only to discover after it was installed that it had poor RF gain. On flat land in nice weather and without moving, I can often pick up FM stereo.
Caveat emptor... I just listen to my MP3's, and live without FM. The unit's great otherwise.
CDs cannot hold 4gb but a single layer DVDR can. CDs cannot hold 4gb but a single layer DVDR can.
Some car CD players are finicky. I aways burn them as MP3's all your newer CD players will play MP3"s
What kind of blank CD to use to record music?
It all depends on the capability of the drive you are using to "play" the music. You could use CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW on a DVD player for instance. If you are using a CD player in an older car...it might only accept CD-R. There are also two ways to record music (on, lets just say for giggles) a CD-R. You can create a CD with music format files (typically WAV files) or you can create one full of small MP3 files. WAV files play only 74 minutes worth of music. An MP3 could play for hours and hours. Some car CD players don't like MP3 formats. The newer cars typically do.
What does E20 mean and why wont your 1996 Grand Am GT take your CD?
The E20 error means that your CD player's lense is dirty. It can't "see" the disc. I had this problem myself & tried to run a cleaning disc which didn't work for the same reason; the player can't see the disc. After searching on the web again, I finally found an answer & you aren't going to believe this, but it works. Take a paper towel & wrap it around a CD so that the ends stick out over the back of the disc enough that you can hold onto it. (obviously, you want to avoid getting the paper towel stuck in there) Then insert that into your player a couple of times & pull it back out. Then insert your cleaning disc (without the paper towel) & let it run. When I did mine, it worked after I did the paper towel thing & cleaning disc, & then did the E20 thing again a few days later so I just used the paper towel trick again & it has worked fine for about 2 months now. I got the feeling that I wouldn't have needed the cleaning disc, so you may want to try the paper towel thing a few times first & see if it works & save yourself about $10.

Why does monsoon 6 disc CD changer display message changer parked?
Ok, there has been a discussion about this over on g6performance.com.
Here is a copy of the service bulletin one of the guys there dug up:
#PIC4509A: Radio Displays Changer Parked Message - keywords battery CD display int intermittent intermittently no owners park radio - (Dec 27, 2007)
Subject: Radio Displays "Changer Parked" Message
Models: 2004-2007 Chevrolet Malibu
2008 Chevrolet Malibu Classic
2005-2008 Pontiac G6
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This PI was superseded to update models and model years. Please discard PIC4509.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A customer may comment that the radio will display a "Changer Parked" message intermittently at times, and there is NO explanation in the owner's manual for this message.
Recommendation/Instructions:
This message will display after the CD mechanism has initialized or when you manually park the CD mechanism. Initialization occurs normally upon a battery reconnect. The mechanism will unpark itself once you press the CD load button.
Note: After pressing the CD load button, you will NOT get a message that's it's unparked.
What is the difference between a CD-ROM and a CD-R?
A CD ROM is a standard compact disc containing data to be read by a digital device, such as a CD player or PC CD-ROM drive. A CD-R is a compact disc which data can be recorded, or burned (hence the term "burning cds). Usually, CD-R's are one shot deals meaning they can recorded until they are either filled up (usually 700 MB) or finalized. CD-R's whether filled up or not cant be read by a digital device until finalized.
How do you get CDs out of a jammed CD player in a 2000 Volvo S80?
You have to remove the player from the dash (disconnect neg. battery cable first). Disassemble it and manually push out the discs. My CD's were jammed and I had to do this. I also noticed that a gear which moves the CD holders had broken teeth. I'm still trying to find a replacement gear.
HERE'S A TRICK I FIGURED OUT: Take another CD. Go to the slot the CD is jammed in (Disc 3, 4 whatever)...MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE CD TIGHTLY. Put the new CD in, but don't actually insert it in all the way. When the CD player tries to "pull it in," pull the CD out quickly. The "jammed" CD will spit out if you try this several times, usually. Certain CDs don't agree with the Volvo CD player (at least mine), and I am not sure why.

How do you manually eject a DVD from a car DVD player?
Assumptions: * You are trying to do this on a front loading "slot" type DVD player * The DVD player does not have a small "pinhole" on the front which would normally be used for manually ejecting discs. * The DVD player is a type that will eject discs if it can not read them for any reason.
I was able to get my DVD out by:
# Shut off the DVD player # Carefully slide a piece of thick paper (postcard thickness) as far into the DVD slot as you can. It will probably go in only a couple inches max. # Turn on the DVD player # Wait about 20 - 30 seconds. The DVD player should have trouble reading the disc because it is not spinning, thus it will report an error and eject the disc. # If this doesn't work, odds are you don't have the paper in far enough so you are not preventing it from spinning.
There is no guarantee that this process won't harm your DVD player and/or disc so attempt at your own risk. I can tell you that I've done this several times without damage to either.
hmm.... sounds like it could be a registry entry problem. Depending on the game, its as simple as unistalling and reinstalling with a reboot in between the 2.
Parking brake bypass for pioneer DVD?
Hello. Bypassing a parking brake on a Pioneer radio requires an interface. You can not just ground the parking brake wire. You can buy them on Ebay or Amazon.
Are compact discs still the best audio available?
The short answer is no. CD's have several limitations due to their very method of recording - limits inherent in being digital devices. Their signal-to-noise ratio is inferior to vinyl, as is their dynamic range.
Additional Answer:
While there has always been debate over whether vinyl is superior to CD's; even within the digital realm: CD's are not the pinnacle of digital music recording.
CD's have only 16 bit encoding with 44.1 kHz sample rate. It is quite possible for digital recording to far exceed the limitation of CD's. However the technology and equipment needed to do so is prohibitively expensive for the average consumer as the demand for digital equipment and sound at such high quality is comparatively low.
Vinyl achieves potentially higher quality sound by nature of it's physical existence; there is no "translating" the sound back and forth through digital algorithms, it creates the sound waves based on direct response feedback.
Or in a more abstract comparison: Vinyl is to sound similar to what traditional film is to pictures. Film absorbs the actual light being reflected and burns the image onto a negative. Vinyl scratches a track into the recording based on actual sound waves directly into the physical medium that will be used for playback.
In contrast digital recordings whether sound or images are using a computer to translate what it sees or hears and than stores it in pieces. Much of the playback or visual quality depends on not just the size of that storage but also the algorithms used to translate it back into a usable sound or image.
With a digital picture this means that trying to expand an image may result in pixelization, the image may not have stored enough details or been able to translate enough of them to create a smooth image. With digital audio it can result in compressed dynamic range or what some audiophiles would call "lack of life", it just doesn't sound real.
Truly high quality digital equipment can compete with vinyl for sound quality and film for picture quality but high quality digital equipment is not widely available to the public, the costs are very high. CD's by comparison are generally considered the "average" level or "good enough for the masses" level of digital quality, not the high end.

What is the capactiy of a DVD-R?
The storage capacity of a DVD-R is advertised as "about 4.7GB." In reality, you get a little less because of file overhead. Should really be able to get closer to 4.38GB out of one in practical applications - that's about two hours of DVD-quality video.
What came before the compact disc?
There are a number of recording and playback alternatives that predate the CD. Among them are:
How do you replace a rubber band in a cassette player?
First take it apart to find the "rubber band" or where it was. Remove the broken pieces of the old band (normally called a drive belt)and install a suitable new rubber band. Actually, sometimes this will work for a while. Replacement drive belts are made of a sturdier material than a rubber band and will last longer with less stretching. Your new rubber band will have to provide enought tension to move the drive wheels but not be too tight as to put undue pressure on those components. Replacement belts are cheap but much too varied for shops to stock very many. Some factory inventory of belts degenerate into rubber blobs or pieces while waiting for a buyer. LOL

What is the area of a compact disc?
The outer radius, R = 60 mm and the radius of the hole, r = 7 mm so the surface area is pi*(R^2 - r^2) = 11156 mm^2 = 111.56 cm^2. However, not all this area is used for data since there are blank bands at both ends.
The area utilised has R = 57.5 mm and r = 11 mm so that this area is 10007 mm^2 = 100.07 cm^2.
