Cheerleading is sometimes seen as a simplified and overglorified version of gymnastics. There is also a stereotype associated with cheerleaders in some areas that is confused for gymnasts and gives them a worse reputation to some.

Safety regulations have changing depending on the level of cheerleading and skill. For example Highschool cheerleading can only involve certain stunts like toe touch baskets, kick single to double baskets but they can not do tuck baskets and more advanced stunts like college and travel teams.

competitive cheerleading means you go against other teams and you compete to win! you also have to have these components in cheerleading: opening, stunts, jumps, cheer (of course!), pyramid, dance, tumbling/gymnastics and the ending.

There are two related forms known as Morris Dancing.

There are the various traditional dances of the British Isles which are collectively known as "Morris Dancing". These include quite a variety of dance forms including Cotswold, Border, North-West, Rapper, and Sword dancing. Some of these types have more of a male tradition, others more a female, but today dancers of both sexes can be found dancing all forms. Dancers can be found performing these dances all over the UK and in many other countries across the world. Their origins seem to be in 14th Century Courtly dances and relatives of Morris dancing can be found surviving across Europe.

There is the type also known as Carnival or "Fluffy" Morris which involves mainly groups of girls dancing processional forms that originated from North-West Morris dancing. Girls have dresses, shakers (pom poms) and pumps with bells on. They go to competitions every week, then after the Christmas term train until march.

There is no way to determine if a sport is "harder" than another sport.

So lets compare football and cheering (I'm going to use All-Star cheering here)

Goal of Sport:

Football: Outplay your opponent, using formations, to score the most points to win

Cheerleading: Perform a 2:30 routine (composed of stunts, tumbling, jumps, and dance) without flaws to receive a higher score than your opponent.

In terms of skill:

Football: Football requires stamina, agility, speed

Cheerleading: Cheering requires, stamina, strength, flexibility, and coordination

In terms of difficulty:

Not to down football, but I think its more difficult to throw a girl in the air, or do a back tuck than it is to throw a ball down a field.

In terms of danger:

Cheerleading is the 3rd most dangerous sport in the world. Football is the 10th

Safety:

Football: Padding and helmits

Cheerleading: Mats, however no body protection

Cheerleading has no "off season" no half- time, no time-out and no bench

However, many football players lift weights and condition year round

I am a cheerleader and I joined because I wanted to say at school that I am a cheerleader and I also liked the makeup and all the routines but mostly it was a great idea to join with a friend and I joined with my friend. Most people do it to show that they do a after school activity and they like to show their school spirit. Go Wolfpacks!!
