What would cause speratic oil pressure to drop from 40 to 0 start knocking then back to 40 and stop knocking instantly on a 1999 GMC Sub 5.7L?

Since the problem is sporadic, it is probably in the oil pump or the screen or pipe on the oil pickup in the pan. If the screen or the pipe is loose, it can let in air which will cause loss of oil pressure. It could also be a stopped up screen in the oil pickup. GM lists the following as possible causes of engine oil pressure below spec: Oil pump worn or dirty Malfunctioning oil pump pressure relief valve Oil pump screen loose, plugged, or damaged Excessive bearing clearance Cracked, porous or restricted oil galleries Engine block oil gallery plugs missing or incorrectly installed Broken valve lifters Add to this, very low oil level. That's probably been checked, but in case it hasn't . . .

How do you Change 2002 suburban starter?

first disconnect the battery.

locate the starter, it is under the passenger side. I was small enough to get under the car without having to lift it. If you can't get under the car then you must lift the car using your jack and jack stands etc.

The starter is right next to the END of the Passenger side exhaust manifold. There are 2 bolts holding the starter to the block I believe it was a 13mm or 14mm. Unscrew the bolts and the starter will be loose in the casing but it is still connected to the terminals. With a large screw driver or a small crowbar push the starter past the oil dipstick, make sure the wires are not in the way(push it towards the front of the car) enough to free it completely from the block. Then wiggle it enough to free and pull it out downwards under the block from here it is easier to disconnect the terminals.

To reinstall just connect the terminals again wiggle upwards...... same process and lastly connect the battery again. I hope this helps someone out. Its a bit tight in there but it comes out with patience. Wear eye protection its real nasty in there. If the car does not start right away do not get discouraged let the car sit with all the lights off. I had to place the car in Neutral try to start then placed it in Park and it finally started up like nothing ever happened :-).

What actions should you take if your steering fails completely?

I think it would be obvious to stop the car as soon as possible.I can't think of anything else you could do but honk your horn to warn people to get out of your way until your car stops.

Fortunately, what you fear is very unlikely- almost impossible if you maintain your car at all well.

What do the egr valves do on a 305 Chevy?

The EGR valve in computer controlled engines allows the computers to run the vehicle at a more lean rate without destroying valves and/or pistons. Only a small percentage of the exhaust gas is allowed back into the combustion chambers; just enough to reduce the oxygen percentage in the air mixture, thereby preventing the super-hot combustion that takes place when the fuel in the mixture is reduced. Carbureted engines are deliberately run at a more "rich" mixture to prevent the destruction of the metal parts.

Another answer:EGR. Exhaust, Gas, Recuirculation. It runs the exhaust back through the motor, to burn any unburned fuel, before exiting the tail pipe. It actually aids the catalytic converter. This is what allows the above answer to hapen.
