How do you set timing on 89 acclaim 2.5L after changing timing belt?

If your crank, cam, and distributor where lined up correctly, you should be pretty close. If not, there is a rubber wedge on the transmission bell housing. Remove this wedge, and you should see your marks through this "window" Take your distributor cap off and #1 plug out. You can turn crank till Top Dead Center. Rotor should be hittting on position 1 on distributor. Loosen distributor and hook up timing light. Book says 12 degrees BEFORE TDC, but mine runs closer to 9 or 10.

If you lined up the crank with the distributor, with notch in cam at 12 o'clock...you should be real close!

How can you tell if your starter is going bad?

Usually it quits working outright or it works only every so many tries. However it can start dragging. A starter will draw a great deal of Amps when it is dying, Approx (300A) Mechanics have a simple gauge they lay on the cable that reads current (amps). Or just go to a parts dealer, they usually check this kind of stuff for free. . They can check your battery. And assuming your cables are good (the proper size) with all connections clean and tight it just may be the Starter. It is a process of elimination. If all else fails Replace the cheapest part first.

1993 Suburban 160k knocks and looses power under load or acceleration. It starts and runs fine otherwise. What is going on?

If you are hearing a knock then you may need an overhaul. Run a compression test to verify wear on the rings and cylinder walls. A knock can also be worn piston pins, crankshaft rod bearings, or a cracked rod. This can be serious and needs attention ASAP. Now if what you are hearing is pinging, then that can be carbon buildup, or the timing may be off. ------------ Your problem could also be a stopped up fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. When you accelerate and the fuel pump cannot supply enough fuel, the engine will buck and ping and lose power. When you let up, the fuel flow is sufficient for the engine to run normally again. Start with checking/replacing the fuel filter.

What to do if your Key is stuck in the ignition of 94 Chevy suburban in the on position but can not turn off to take key out?

In past experience I either took the shifter out of park put it in drive, then firmly put it back in park then try and turn off and remove key. The other is possibly your ignition tumbler is loose like our 1998 in that case you have to be gentle and try to slide the key while giving it a little jingle. I'm not kidding, we really have to do that! Good Luck!

How long does it take to replace the starter on a 2002 Chevy Suburban?

1996

If it's not broke why fix it, however a 2002 starter would probably have been replaced at least three to fives times based on it's now 2007 soon will be 2008. The fact that most starters last usually a year or year and a half. If that does not answer your question it's might be best to reflect to your owners manual or car dealership for advice.

He was not asking how long until the old started would quit. he is trying to say that he starter is broken and wants to know the length of time that it would take to replace it.

The correct answer is..... that it would probably take you around a hour, if you know what you are doing and have the right tools.

How do you get inside the door of your 1998 mercury mountaineer to fix the door handle lock if the door is shut and wont unlock so you can remove the door panel?

I had this problem on mine. Using a flat screw driver starting form the window seal you can very gently pry the door panel up and then work your way down loosen the door panel enough to access the interior portion of the door and the lock. It takes patience not to break the door panel but it works.

Install starter for 1995 Subaru Impreza?

two bolts holding the starter, 1 connected to the battery and another one though not sure what this was connected to. two bolts holding the starter: one on the top is easy to get to. might have been a 17mm. the bottom is easy if you have an extesion for your ratchet. start at the firewall and you can get to it fine. the bolt seems to be at an angle or something. i couldn't get a solid bite on it so be careful not to strip it. i think this was like 14mm, deffinitely not the same as the top. 1 connected to the batery. remove th rubber cover (just pull back with your fingers) and i think it was a 12mm. another one: this guy is below the wire to the battery. it's got a flat contact. just feel for the flat male end when reconnecting the wire back.

Just did this yesterday. The Top is a 17MM & bottom is a 14mm. The nut for the wire can be a different size on the new starter. That little 2nd wire IS IMPORTANT car won't start so make sure it's attached. You'll also need to use a stubby ratchet, not enough room otherwise. I use a quarter inch to three eighths adapter so I could use by quarter inch ratchet. Under 10 minuted to take out and under 5 to put back. Only tricky part is wiggling the starter out from under the hoses, but it can be done without taking anything else loose.
