Horrified, Caesar allied with Cleopatra, who became his lover, and supported her in a civil war against her Ptolemy and Arsinoe. Caesar won. Was Cleopatra nice?

No, she was a very self-centered, greedy and manipulative person. She was only nice to the people she thought could help her in some way. She murdered her brother and sister, murdered anyone who she thought would be her enemy, threatened a Roman citizen with torture and lied to her people after Actium. Even considering that she lived in different times than ours, she cannot be considered "nice".

How old would Cleopatra be now?

Actually there were several Egyptian queens named Cleopatra. I assume you mean Cleopatra VII, the one who was the lover of Julius Caesar, and later Mark Antony. She was born in January 69 BC; the exact date is unknown. If she was still alive today she would be 2,078 years old. (and still doesn't look a day over thirty... )

Why are last born children always spoiled?

They are not always spoiled. It would be very hard to make any statement about children that is always true.

Many last-born children are spoiled because their parents or grandparents baby them and favor them. They don't want to see them grow up and leave like the others. It means they themselves are growing old and edging closer to death.

this isn't always true. parents treat all their children differently according to age.

the oldest child is usually treated with more care, because the parents are learning through this child as it grows. the oldest child helps the parents to discover what works in education so that they can then practice it on their younger children.

the youngest child is usually treated different to the oldest because it is in fact YOUNGER. young children need different stimulation from parents than an older child. older children don't need as much one on one attention from parents as younger children, but they do need it.

if youre the oldest child, explain to your parents that although you are the oldest, and more mature, you still want affection.

its hard for siblings to understand that as they grow to their varying ages, each child must be treated differently.

No, parents almost always spoil their youngest kids. I think it's because of what the first guy said: it reminds them that they are getting old. But sometimes the other kids feel neglected and unloved. there are some rare occasions, like in my case, when both the oldest AND the youngest are treated like angels and the second oldest is treated like dirt. I dnt know what 2 do. PLZ advise?

What were Cleopatra's setbacks?

Cleopatra had many setbacks and she managed to overcome most of them, even if they were caused by her own selfishness. The last setback was the killer though, as it culminated in her suicide. Her first setback, that we know of, was her being booted off the throne by her brother, then the death of Julius Caesar, who was her protector. The failure to dethrone Herod was another, the defeat at Actium and the refusal of her neighbors to come to her aid against Rome certainly counted as setbacks, big time.

How did Cleopatra kill her sister?

Cleopatra killed her sister in a backhanded way. She was unable to harm her sister because Arsinoe was under the protection of Rome, (Julius Caesar had reprieved her). So Cleopatra trumped up charges against her and had Marc Antony kill her. Antony had the authority to do this because he was the Roman triumvir in the east.

When did Cleopatra go to rome?

Which time? We know that Cleopatra was summoned to Rome in 46 BC and we also know that she was there in 44 BC when Caesar was killed. But according to the ancient writer, Seutonius, she left while Caesar was alive as the senate confirmed her status as an ally and Caesar himself presented her with parting gifts. So this would point to the fact that Cleopatra made two trips to Rome if she were there when Caesar was killed. Also it would not have made political sense if Cleopatra, as a newly established queen, stayed away from her kingdom for almost two years. The best dates we can come up with at this time is that she went to Rome in 46 BC and then went a second time to Rome in 44.

Did the people in Egypt like Cleopatra as queen?

Yes and no. You see there were what amounted to two Egypts in Cleopatra's time. There were the Alexandrians and the Greek overseers and the native Egyptians. The Alexandrians did not like Cleopatra and did not want her as queen. They backed her brother. The native Egyptians, especially the priestly class, did like her, as she respected their religion and was generous with her financial support of them. Most of her support came from around the city of Thebes. The average native Egyptian worker was neutral, rulers came and went but their lives basically remained the same.

Why did Cleopatra commit suicide?

Cleopatra was a ruler of Egypt as well as Gaius Julius Caeser. Cleopatra and Gaius had a relationship in which she gave birth to a son that they called Ptolemy Caesar who was nicknamed Caesarion.

After Gaius was assassinated, she aligned with Mark Antony, with whom she produced a set of twins named Cleopatra Selene II and Alexander Helios and a son called Ptolemy Philadelphus.

Mark Antony had committed suicide after his general misheard and believed Cleopatra to be dead. She had him brought to her and she was held prisoner as he died in her arms. She didn't want to be treated like dirt, as Caesarion wanted to bring her to rome to be pulled along the streets. She asked for a sanke to be placed in a basket of figs, as Caesarion did not want her to die. She let the snake bite her, ending her life.

But she most likely killed her self because she went mad after her two husbands died and did not want to dragged around the streets in rome and ended her life with a burning sensation flowing through her body.

Cleopatra had only 2 husbands, and they were both her brothers. She never married Julius Caesar and the marriage to Marc Antony was a sham. It was a political "marriage" rather than legal nuptials.
