What does novel mean in novel H1N1?
The word "novel" was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to distinguish this H1N1 virus from all the other H1N1 viruses because the 2009 pandemic influenza it caused by a brand new type of virus.
When used as an adjective, one of the meanings of the word "novel" is "new". It is derived from the Latin word "novus" that means "new". The word novel can also mean unique, unusual, and original. All of these meanings of "novel" fit the adjective chosen to describe this pandemic influenza virus.
Take a lukewarm bath, and sip gingerale
Will runny nose lead to a throat infection?
One of the throat infection symptoms is runny nose along with throat pain. However, it is not always necessary that you will get a throat infection if you have a runny nose but you are more susceptible to it as your immunity is low.
What animal is the source of the Swine Flu virus?
Update: There have now been cases of swine flu found in pet dogs, pet cats, pet ferrets, and domesticated turkeys as well as in humans and pigs.
Humans and perhaps pigs.
Although the Novel H1N1 Influenza is a new strain without enough known about it yet, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) speculate that it could be transmitted not only human to human but also human to pig and back again.
What is the Treatment of internal body fever?
just take a icecold bath this will help to get fever out after that you know what to do
Are any category C medication being used for the treatment of swine flu H1N1 S-OIV?
Category C drugs like C-3s and C-4s are probably being used in this pandemic as people become more and more stressed and prone to needing medicine treatment for anxiety. The aches and pains are probably being treated with NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory drugs), which will also reduce fever, except aspirin in children is contraindicated due to the potential for Reyes Syndrome. Any stronger pain medications like codeine, or other opioids (narcotics) may not be used since they can suppress respirations and perhaps make it more difficult to clear lungs of secretions and sputum. For the same reason, cough medications that are expectorants, instead of suppressants, would be a first choice. In extreme cases, codeine cough medications may be necessary for an unrelenting cough, however. Treatment is not synonymous with cure...just measures to make patients feel better and endure the disease.
A new strain of H1N1 is thought to have originated in what country?
Mexico, although there is also speculation that the new pandemic swine flu A-H1N1/09 may have actually started in the US and then moved into Mexico.
Is it safe to have a cold shower when you have a cold?
it techniqly not safe or non-safe . i know when i have a cold i take a really HOT shower. it helps me breath way better.
How are the government spending there money to cure swine flu?
By stockpiling up lots and lots of Tamiflu
If you have had H1N1 do you still need to get the shot?
If the correct test was done to confirm the H1N1, then, no there is no need to take it again. But if you are not absolutely sure that the test confirmed the A-H1N1/09 flu, then it will do no harm to take the vaccine. The only test that can be relied upon to be an absolute indicator of the vaccination is the RT-PCR test, and not the rapid tests done in the doctor's offices. you should have some immunity against 2009 H1N1 flu and can choose not to get the 2009 H1N1 vaccine.
Don't give in and write an order for potentially harmful drugs without medical reason and use only for label uses.

How do you not catch a friend's cold?
It's best to stay away from them, not share drinks or food, and keep clean (wash hands regularly). Basically, just don't make contact with them if you don't have to.
What is the exponential equation that models the spread of Swine Flu?
Here is the equation, as of May 7th. I graphed the number of swine flu cases versus date on excel (with April 23 being Day 1). The graph was an exponential curve. In order to make a good regression, the curve has to be linear. So, I took the natural log (ln) of the cases, in order to make a near-linear graph. Then, I calculated the trendline.
# swine flu cases = e^[1.6895 + 0.3442(date)]
**Note, date = the number of the day, if you start with 4/23 as day one, 4/24 as day two, and so on. I picked 4/23 because that's when most other graphs I've seen of swine flu cases starts.
**Also note: this curve could change with time. Eventually, it will look more like a bell-curve than an exponential curve.
How do you fake sick without fever?
Acting out being sick:
Make lots of noises, such as gagging, retching, crying, moaning, groaning, coughing and choking.
Cry out exclaimations and implore the on-listener to "make it stop", "oh, God!", "Help", "please" and other expressions of discomfort.
Make sure you are behind a locked door, and flush the toilet afterwards if you are not using a fake vomit mixture.
How to fake vomit:
A few days before you are going to fake being sick, mix up oats, cocoa powder, leftovers, strawberry milkshake, and any other lumpy fluids you can think of. Leave them for about 3-4 days for the mix to look and smell like vomit.
The day before you are going to fake being sick, complain of stomachache, dizziness, feeling light-headed and of course, say that you feel sick. Go to bed early.
During that night, get up and shut yourself in the bathroom. Make retching noises, but do not actually do so as you could make yourself ill for real. When you come out, tell someone you thought you were going to be sick, but that nothing came.
The next morning, a while before you would normally be awake, pour about half of the fake mixture over your floor and bed, and even on yourself. Then rush noisily to the bathroom, so that someone wakes up. Say to them that you were sick, you didn't know it was going to happen, your stomach hurts, your throat hurts, you feel all shaky, and act apologetic.
Fake another couple of false alarm rushes to the bathroom during the day.
The next night, get up in the middle of the night, shouting that you are going to be sick. Make sure you sound desperate.
In the bathroom, pour most of the mixture remaining into the toilet, bath or sink. Splash the rest around the place you have "been sick", and again a little down your front.
Hide the container well.
While you are pouring the mixture, make gagging and retching noises. Shout exclaimations of pain, anguish and discomfort. This adds realism.
Act shaky and unsteady when you leave the bathroom.
During the next day, throw in a false alarm rush, and begin to make your "recovery". 2 days off, with a sickness bug. Voila!
What are difference between antigen drift and antigenic shift?
Both are mutation occurs in virus (usually influenza). But the difference is:
antigenic drift are mutation occurs in viral DNA/RNA that cause a person to be re-infected by the virus.
while antigenic shift are mutation occurs in viral characteristic, which cause transition from being able to infect poultry ONLY (not human), --> able to infect BOTH poultry and human.
Was the flu pandemic of 1918 the worst pandemic ever?
It was. "Pandemic" means spread around the entire world ("pan" means ALL). Swine flu was a true pandemic and reached every country in the world before it was over.
The World Health Organization's Director-General, Margaret Chan, announced on August 10, 2010 that the Pandemic Phase was over and we entered the Post Pandemic Phase.
A pandemic is a disease that spreads over a wide geographic area, affecting a large proportion of the population.
Swine Flu has reached geographic regions globally due to the ease and frequency of Global traveling. It met the criteria of a pandemic due to the spread to all continents of the world. The Pandemic Phase does not indicate an increase in severity of the disease, it indicates the total global spread, which does cause an increase in total numbers of cases and transmissions world wide.

World Health Organization raises Pandemic Level to Phase 6 - Pandemic Phase. From WHO news conference 11 June 2009:"On the basis of available evidence and these expert assessments of the evidence, the scientific criteria for an influenza pandemic have been met. I have therefore decided to raise the level of influenza pandemic alert from Phase 5 to Phase 6. The world is now at the start of the 2009 influenza pandemic."
The transcripts of the Press Conference can be read or videos watched at the WHO site link below in related links section.
It is important to note that this does not indicate an increase in the severity, just that the criteria for Phase 6 regarding the spread of the Novel H1N1 Influenza have been met. This puts in to place additional steps by WHO and Nations' plans for control and prevention in such a widespread situation of pandemic.
