How is the caliber of a rifle or handgun determined?
Well, it depends on what you mean. The caliber is "determined" at time of production based on whatever caliber the manufacturer wants it to be. The caliber can be determined later by looking on the barrel. The caliber will almost always be stamped somewhere on the barrel.
How do I get the manufacture date from a lot number?
Normally the manufacturer sends their product to a national or worldwide distributor, who has access to many accounts and clients. The distributors make it possible for smaller companies to access a wider client base.
The distributor should have access to the manufacturer, who should have lot numbers, batch numbers, dates of manufacture, ect.. Knowing the parties involved will help in finding out who to contact.
Consider this..
The distributor will submit a purchase order (PO) to the manufacturer, whenever they need product, that is when the product is shipped, not made. In most cases the product will have already been manufactured, either in house or by another company that is capable of making the product and putting it in its container/packaging.
If this is the case, then the original Lot number will come from the source. It is possible for the Principal owner of the product to add their own lot numbers, bar codes ect, after they receive it from the source.
Many third party manufactures will provide everything, containers, product, labeling, bar codes, and lot numbers with expiration dates. For a premium obviously. Larger manufacturers are usually CGMP certified, meaning they maintain accurate records in accordance with the FDA and its inspections.
Hope this is informative :) Adam
Can a colt 38 special official police mkIII fire a 38 special plus p ammo?
You need to contact Colt for a correct answer.
Orbea was a fairly prolific gun maker in Spain. Many of their revolvers are copies of Smith & Wesson type actions. The ctg marking is abbreviation for cartridge. These were made in the 1920s-30s. Quality is less than a comparable Smith & Wesson, but better than junk. Value will depend on condition, but is typically $75-$150 or so. It would be prudent to have checked by a gunsmith for timing and cylinder end shake before shooting, and stay away from +P high energy ammo.

What is the value of a Colt BOA revolver?
If the gun appears unfired or factory fired only and does include the factory colt box and paperwork, it would typically be worth somewhere between $4500-$5000 in mint condition. I have a consecutive numbered set of Boa's myself (one 4" and one 6") that are pristine and only factory fired and they are only going to continue to increase in value.

What is more powerful 308 or 7mm Remington magnum caliber rifle?
Both calibers have alot power but the 7mm is more powerful due to the fact that the bullets of the 7mm are in a higher grain than the .308. The 7mm also has a much higher recoil than the 308 and even the 30-06, both calibers have a high standard of performance but its no question the 7mm remington is more powerful

How do you clean a tarnished gun?
I don't know the process to clean a tarnished firearm. However, if it is a very old one, or you think it has historical and/or monetary value, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT. This can cause trouble in dating the weapon and will drastically lower its value. Collectors and appraisers like old, historic firearms as-is, with tarnish, rust and all.
One way of cleaning without damaging is to clean with 0000 steel wool and gun oil....
