Who first used the term bug in computer programming and where did this occur?

moth in computer in 1952

The term "bug" had been in use for any malfunction or error of a machine long before electronic digital computers existed.

Its first use referring to a computer problem was on the Harvard Mark II electromechanical computer in 1947, when a moth got smashed inside the contacts of a relay causing a failure. When the failure was located and the moth removed from the relay, the operator on that shift taped it to the logbook below the entry on the failure and labeled it First Computer Bug. That morning Grace Murray Hopper came on duty and read the logbook and thought it was a great story to tell every time she spoke somewhere. The first computer bug wasn't even in an electronic computer, the Harvard Mark II was electromechanical.

When did Mauchly and Eckert invent UNIVAC 1?

Probably about 1947, but it took until 1950 before EMCC built the first one and it effectively bankrupted the company. They had to sell the company to Remington Rand to get funding to build any more.

At what university did Charles Babbage work?

Charles Babbage was a British mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer who is widely credited as the father of the computer. He was a professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge from 1828 until his death in 1871. He worked on several projects related to mathematics and computing during his time at the university, including the Difference Engine and the Analytical Engine, both of which are considered to be early precursors to the modern computer. Babbage also worked closely with the university's Lucasian Chair of Mathematics, the then-current holder of which was the famous physicist and mathematician, Isaac Newton.

In 1839, Babbage was appointed as the first Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. This position allowed him to pursue his interest in mathematics and computing, and he quickly became an influential figure in the field. He was also an active member of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, publishing several papers on mathematics, computing and other topics.

Babbage's work at the University of Cambridge was highly acclaimed, and he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a member of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. His work was instrumental in developing the foundations for computer science, and he is considered to be one of the most influential figures in the history of computing.

Who is the grandaddy of all computers?

The ENIAC is the granddaddy of all computers. It was developed to calculate artillery firing table for the US Army. ENIAC stand for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer. However ENIAC was an architectural dead end and not one computer afterwards was based in anyway on it.

How did the Internet get its name?

The word Internet comes from "Inter-Networking" which is simply the description applied to several "computer networks" linked together.

The concept of internetworking first appeared to enable the connection of research and academic institutions. In 1983, it had reached a point whereby individual networks could be connected securely and so that when a single component failed it did not bring down the whole network, or "net".

"Inter-network" has come to popularly refer to multiple networks not owned by one entity. It is possible to have an "Inter-network" that is not open to the public therefore forming an "Inter-network" that is not part of THE Internet.

"Intra-network" indicates multiple networks joined together but owned by one entity and closed off from any outsiders.

The Internet is not the same as the World Wide Web, the establishment of which is ascribed to Tim Berners-Lee. The web relies on the internet, but the internet does not rely on the web. The internet is the hardware underpinning the www, from cables that are occasionally inadvertently cut by trawlermen to enormous "switches" that route information.

Regarding the actual etymology of the word

There are two parts to this word: the prefix "inter-", and "net", short for "network". The prefix "inter" comes from Latin, meaning (in this context) "within a group". The word network itself comes from the origins meaning "intersecting lines", in the same sense as a network of streets; computers logically connect to each other through a series of logically interconnected lines of communication.

What is the history of dark ages of computer?

As the need for rapid calculations increased, commercial organizations introduced the electronic calculator to the market. Then the computer appeared.

The price of computers decreased, and they started appearing in more businesses, and then also in schools, libraries, and wealthier governments.

The Internet connected computers together and provided more information to users, but there were also problems such as fraudulent websites, overabundant commercial emails, copyright violations, server outages, and lack of connectivity to poorer countries.

The dawn of the computer age brought about some disadvantages, such as incompatible file formats, fears about privacy, and error messages such as the Blue Screen of Death.

What is the processor in a personal computer called?

CPU, which stands for Central Processing Unit. Intel is probably the worlds largest producer of CPUs, which are now used in both PCs and Apple Mac computers.

The term CPU is also sometimes used to refer to the whole computer case containing the CPU and other components.

What is mini frame computer?

While it's not an industry-recognized term, a 'miniframe' is a portmantau of 'miniature' and 'mainframe', and usually refers to smaller mainframes.

What are the disadvantages of computer in the life of people?

One of the major drawbacks of computers is that they require programming before they can perform any task. Also, formal training is almost always required before one can properly use a computer.

When did Charles Babbage first invent the computer?

Charles Babbage made several plans to completing the computer in London. Babbage was born in London in 1791 and spent most of his life in or near that city, other than attending school (various secondary schools, then Cambridge University) and a short time after his marriage (when he lived in the West Midlands, not far from Wales), so it would have been there.

Why is the computer?

we have computers for a reason to ask questions and to learn new things like if your keyboard have a little calculator on it then u could click on it and check if your homework is right or wrong. computers could be use to talk to your family over the world (messnager) heres my phone number 904-11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 thank you for reading love, fart face

How did Charles Babbage come up with the idea?

One of Charles Babbage's jobs was as a Computer calculating navigation tables.

He became very frustrated one day with the slow and error prone process of having several Computers calculate one table, then crosscheck their answers, recalculate and recrosscheck any errors found, have the printer typeset the table, recheck the printer's proofs against the calculated table, have the printer retypeset any errors found, etc.

At this point he decided that there must be a way to make a machine powered by stream do the entire task without error. His initial idea was a Difference Engine, but this eventually led to the fully programmable Analytical Engine.

Can you find internet history on a mac after its been deleted?

Yes, but for a casual PC user it is much to complicated. That is, if it has been properly removed. History is a temporary file, it is defaulted to be removed 20 days after you record it into the cache... To put it in English...

AnswerYes,the normal "delete" procedures only puts it where you cannot see it. It is still on your hard drive.

The only real way to remove all traces of everything on a hard-drive such that a computer forensic expert cannot retrieve it, is to make the hard drive "disappear".
