Crankcases and PCV Valves

Basically, a crankcase is the casing for the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. Combustion produces pressure within the crankcase. Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves regulate the vapor pressure within the engine and recycle it back into the engine.

How Crank pin ovality measurement is done in marine diesel engine?

With reference to the engine manf. tolerances and record sheet, using a calibrated micrometer. Bottom end bearing is removed from crankpin / piston removed. Surface wiped clean. Then at the specified points in the record sheet, measure the diameter. Normally at least 0, 45, 90, 135 deg. with ref to TDC and 5 equal distance locations across the pin.

Normally wear would be seen at the top (highest loaded point), and may require grinding undersize to remove ovality, followed by thorough oil flushing / locate source of contamination.

Check piston rings, skirt and liner condition for wear / abnormalities

Location of pcv on civic 92 dx?

2 locations possible, either behind the block by oil filter there is a black plastic box, it is connected by a rubber hose, and the other location is the easier one, it could be on the intake manifold between the first and second cylinder channels, just track the black rubber hose( big vaccuum one, most likely running from the front of the intake manifold)! and Google for pics as a pic is worth a 1000 words and also i recommend replacing with a new Honda oem, no aftermarket as they are not engine specific but Honda ones are!

Where is the pcv valve and how do you change it on a 1998 Nissan Frontier 4x4 4-cylinder?

The PCV valve is located behind the alternator, under the intake manifold. The best way I found to get to it is to remove the Passenger front tire, remove the splash guard, Remove the bolts on the power steering hose bracket (just makies it easier to get into the area),remove the oil filter. You should be able to see a hose that runs parallel to the engine block behind and above the alternator. I had to grab it with a plier to get enough leverage to pull it out. Once out, I was able to remove the hose and replace the valve. I put a little oil on the valve exterier to make it slide in easier.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 1986 Honda Civic DX?

If you still need an answer, to locate the pcv valve you need to remove your air cleaner, disconnect your line going into your fuel filter to get it out of the way and look down directly between your carbuerator and your valve cover. There is a small (3/8" hose, approx 6-7" in length) hose that curves down into the engine and is probably covered with a heat protecting foam sleeve. Slide up the hose clamp and pull the hose out. The pcv valve is stuck inside a rubber grommit in the block itself. You will need some very long and skinny needle nosed pliers to pull it out. Pop the new one in it's place making sure you push it in at the right angle. Replace your hose and air cleaner, fuel filter hoses and you are good to go!!!

What is a PCV valve for?

Positive Crankcase Ventilation Answer 2: The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces hydrocarbon emissions by scavenging crankcase vapors. It does this by circulating fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase, where it mixes with blow-by gases and is then rerouted through a PCV valve to the intake manifold. - Haynes Repair Manual #36071

How do you hook up vacuum lines on a 84 Chevrolet c20 egr equipped has a edlebrock performer intake manifold and a 600 carburetor?

The brake booster runs to the large port in the rear of the carb or you can tap into one of the intake runners. You may have to T off some vacuum lines as the 600 carb probably won't have enough to run everything. There are fittings that will screw into the large rear port of the carb that have 2, 3, or 4 smaller Ts for running all this. Manifold vacuum will be any port on the carb base plate and intake manifold. You'll need manifold vacuum to the plastic reserve vacuum ball....that's for the HVAC controls. The intake should have a couple of places to install switches into the coolant flow. You will need the ported EGR vacuum switch for your 84 truck. The switch should have two places to hook vacuum up....one you will hook up to manifold vacuum and the other runs to the EGR. There should also be a ported switch to operate the canister purge valve. If your distributor runs a vacuum advance, run that to a ported vacuum port.....anywhere above the base plate of the carb. That should get you started.....as I'm just going by memory.

Where is the pcv valve on 1994 Toyota Celica?

The PCV valve is located on the top of the valve cover. To test the PCV valve, start the engine, pull the valve out of the valve cover and put your thumb over the hole in the end. If you hear a little click, then the PCV valve is good. If there is no vacuum at the hole, either the valve is bad or the hose is bad. To see if the hose is bad, pull the hose off and put your thumb over the end. If there is vacuum, replace the PCV valve. If not, replace the hose. It's important to note that PCV valves are sized for specific engine applications. The wrong PCV valve for an application can flow too much or too little air causing driveability problems.
