Crankcases and PCV Valves

Basically, a crankcase is the casing for the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. Combustion produces pressure within the crankcase. Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves regulate the vapor pressure within the engine and recycle it back into the engine.

It is stuck in a rubber hose and pushed in the top of the valve cover

Where is the PCV valve AMC 304 engine located?

the pcv valve is located at the gack of the intake manifold there should be a gromet at the back or a big hole if theres a big hole you also need the gromet and it connects to the carb and air cleaner. I hope this was helpful It's in-line in the hose on the back of the intake manifold.

Where is the PVC valve located on a 1999 Nissan Frontier?

I know on the 4cyl 4x4 it's a pain to get to. It's best to tackle this when your changing your oil. Remove the fender liner and oil filter. It should be back in behind the alternator and below the power steering pump. I had to release the hose clamp and pull the pcv valve out with needle nose pliers. I wish you luck. Additionally, in many forums people have recommended the removal of the power steering pump which has no added benefit. The PCV Valve is best accessed from underneath the vehicle, with both the plastic skid plate and the inner fender skirt remove. Don't confuse the hose running to the PCV valve with a near by heater hose that has coolant running through it. The heater hose will terminate just below the radiator hose, the PCV valve terminates into a type of plastic box measuring apprx. 2x2x1 inches.

Where is the PCV valve located on a Chrysler Town and Country?

I have a 97 Town and country LXI FWD with a 6 cylinder engine. If you are standing at the front of the vehicle looking at the engine, the PCV valve is on the left side of the engine under the intake runners. There is a long hose that runs all the way under the intake runners and then connects into the intake on the right side (there is an elbow right where it connects in).

Where are the air intake manifold and the PCV valve on a 2005 Ford F150 FX4 5.4 liter engine?

The intake is mounted to the center of the top of the engine, and the pcv valve would probably be on the top of right valve cover, near the back of the engine, underneath the firewall. You got problems already?

What is valve margin?

The distance between the valve face and the head of the valve is called the margin.

How does a fouled PCV valve effect the engine?

pcv rerouts exhaust air to the air filter,it functions by opening and closing relative to rpm, as rereouted exhaust could lean the mixture. so the engine could develop cold starting problems and backfire while decelarating

Where is the PCV valve located on a 2000 Ford Focus LX with a 2.0L sohc?

The PCV Valve is located (if you are facing the windshield looking over the engine) on the upper right hand side of the valve cover (The big silver plate that says 2.0L split port) There is a 1 inch thick tube connected to it and its a little black plastic tube with a square looking thin flange around it. It'll take a set of channel lock pliers to take it off and it's only a half turn thread and it spins and you pull straight out. it doesnt look like normal little silver PCV valves so it took me a while to find it but it's the same size in length. replace and reconnect the vaccum hose.

Where is the PCV valve on a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire?

On the 2.2 engine, it's located at the right (passenger) side of the valve cover on the back side. You'll see a hose going to it. To check or replace it, remove the hose and the metal retaining ring. Remove the valve with a needle nose pliers. Shake it and listen for a rattle. If you don't hear the rattle, it means that the valve is plugged. You COULD shoot some WD-40 into/through it to try to clean it out. Try the shake test again. If this fails, replace the valve. FriPilot

Where is the PCV valve on a 99 prelude?

The PCV Valve is located on the top right of the engine, which connects a tube from the intake manifold to the head of the engine. IT IS NOT THE ONE THAT CONNECTS TO YOUR INTAKE!!! ..

How do you repair a thrown rod?

you cant repair a thrown rod...it has to be replaced...as far as how to replace it, you should be able to get some sort of manual at your local library for removal and installation procedures if not try autozone or search the internet for the repair manual. it is a bit too in depth to be described on wiki answers (^_^)

Where is the PCV valve located on a Ford F-150 4.2L?

The PCV valve connection on a Ford F-150 4.2l is located on top of the passenger side valve cover, towards the firewall. It is somewhat difficult to see and reach. It helps to remove the fusebox cover mounted on the firewall.

On my 2002 F-150 4.2L it is in the side of the intake manifold right behind the throttle body. This seems to be a big switch up by Ford because a lot of people get stuck on this one. If you go to your parts store they will tell you the 02 F-150 doesn't have one. You have to go to the dealer.

Every car and truck has one. One place or another. No exceptions. Blow-by from normal running creates pressure in crankcase, and VERY old vehicles had a simple vent. Sometime in the early 50's the designers created Positive Crankcase Ventelation, where the intake vacuum sucks out the fumes greatly extending oil-life, The PCV Valve is a very simple device, a check-valve that prevents pressure from being blown IN TO cranksase from either a backfire through intake, or a bit more sophisticated system for positive-pressure induction engines, i.e. supercharged where there is no vacuum under acceleration. Both of the above answers are correct, it's just two answers incomplete. One end is in the valve cover to suck air from crankcase, (where valve is) the other end by throttle body for vacuum source.

Where is the pcv valve on a Mercury Villager and how do you get it out?

PCV Valve!

The PCV Valve is located right beside the EGR valve (located in behind but attached to the intake manifold) and has a thick black tube connected to it, when that tube is removed, it will expose the PCV valve from there, you will have to unscrew it and replace it, then re connect the hose and start it up! Trust me it sounds a lot easier than it really is! It takes almost 90 mins to reinstall! I am not sure it will work on all Villagers!

On a 2000 Villager, the PCV valve is pressed into a rubber grommet on a 90 degree tube extension from the rear valve cover, which is then connected by a black hose to a nipple extension on the upper rear intake manifold. The way to remove it is to unbolt the bracket attached to the intake manifold holding the accelerator cable, using 'right angled' pliers to open, then push the hose clamp back from the end of the hose attached to the intake manifold, then using the angled end of a brake shoe adjusting tool to push off the hose from the nipple on the rear upper intake manifold, being careful not to break off this nipple (the upper intake manifold is molded plastic and the nipple is part of the manifold). Once this end of the hose is loose, then the PCV valve with the hose attached can be pulled out of the grommet from the valve cover end.

It helps to place a little silicone grease onto the manifold end of the hose and the base of the PCV valve that slides into the grommet for ease of future removal. Replace the hose clamp, replace the accelerator cable bracket, and you're ready to go. Make sure you do this with the engine cold, because there isn't a lot of room in the back of the engine. It took about 10-15 minutes to do it this way.

Do the Chevy 305 with a roller cam have a lot of power?

A Chevy 305 with a roller cam will have MORE power than a 305 with a flat tappet cam if both are installed in the same engine. The horsepower of any 305 depends on what all is done to the engine. Changing from flat tappet to roller will gain some. There are other ways to increase horsepower and there are other ways to increase torque.

Where is the PCV Valve on a 89 5.0 Lincoln Town Car?

Hey William==It is in the valve cover. GoodluckJoe On most cars it is in the valve cover but on the 5.0L Ford, Lincoln, Mercury engines it is actually in the intake manifold back by the firewall. About the only way to get to it is to climb up onto the engine from the passenger side and look and feel down in there. Check out this site for a few pictures. The one on there is a Mark VII 5.0L but the only difference is the direction the intake manifold is facing. http://markvii.homestead.com/pcv.html For all things Lincoln, check out www.lincolnsonline.com and venture into the forums. A wealth of good knowledge there from Lincoln owners all over the world. Literally.
