How do you replace the cam shaft sensor in a 2000 VW Beetle?

I have a '98 VW Beetle with a Engine Check Light fault 0341 or Cam Position sensor problem. I have had this problem for about 40,000 miles and at times have tried to fix it.

In responding to your "how to" request let me first say that the Beetle uses the cam position sensor to fine tune the gasoline mixture and spark to real-life driving conditions. In the event the cam position sensor stops working, the computer control system simply reverts to a built-in database of mixture and spark settings. These are just fine but may result in some increased gasoline consumption.

Now for the fix-it suggestions: a faulty cam position sensor is not very common by what I have read. But the cam position sensor fault can be a result of in improperly tensioned or timed, toothed cam belt. In addition, the cam position sensor fault seems to be commonly caused because of frayed or otherwise faulty wiring from the sensor to its' connection into the wiring harness.

To replace the sensor, you must remove the toothed cam belt (loosen the tensioner and pull the belt off of the cam sprocket) and the cam sprocket. The sensor is located behind the sprocket - it is easily replaced. Althought this may seem daunting, the hard part is relocating the cam sprocket correctly to the cam shaft. You see, there is no key or fixed marks to get it back on correctly. I do recommend that you get a repair book to try the yourself. The VW book is somewhat difficult to use and I have never looked at the Haynes manuals.

Where is the crank sensor located?

AnswerThe position will vary according to the year, make and model. However, crank sensors are usually located in the transmission bell housing, just above the flywheel.

Where is the crankshaft sensor located on a 1997 Pontiac sunfire?

the 2.4 sunfire engine don't have crankshaft sensor, only have camshaft sensor.

Yes they do have one.. well mine does.. it is above the oil filter kind of behind the rear of the starter.. pain in the but...

Now I wanna know how to get it out?!

*****************************************************************

I just replaced mine. It's right above the oil filter, can't see it from below. The way I did it was taking the starter out of the way and, because it was kind of stuck, I had to take the oil filter out also, it has an 8mm hex head screw, after taking this out, used a channel lock pliers to pry it out , it might be easier for you, maybe. Just be careful with the new one and not brake the o ring, I applied a dab of oil to get it lubed.

Good luck!

Where is the camshaft position sensor on a dodge 5.9 liter 1997?

That would be the pick up plate in the distributor under the rotor and cap.

What is the connector pinout pattern for the crank sensor on a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus with the Mitsubishi 2.5?

Light Blue/Black wire is the sensor ground, Tan/Brown wire is the signal output and the Orange wire is the 8 volt power feed from the PCM.

You tried changing your camshaft sensor on the 2001 Dodge neon and now your car doesn't start What do you do?

Go in the PCM with a scan tool and relearn the cam/crank values. I'm not 100% on this, but I think you have to have a Chrysler scan tool to do it.

Where is the crank sensor on a 2005 Kia Optima?

i do believe they said CRANKSHAFT SENSOOOOORRRRRR> not camshaft

crankshaft sensor is on passenger side behind the lower timing belt cover right next to the crank pulley. replacing this is not fun. i know, i have done it.

3.0 96 Ford Taurus wont start replaced the starter and still wont start what do you think it is?

Laern about bad conections1.There is a starter relay in the engine compartment that connects the battery +12 volts to the starter when you turn the key to the start position. The shift selector has to be in neutral or park.

2. If you can't hear the relay "thunk" then you have to trace the connections from the ignition switch, thru the transmission park and neutral switch and to that relay. 3. If the relay "thunks"(meaning it is working) - then you must check the battery cable connection on the starter, relay and battery. A voltmeter is helpful here and an assistant to turn the key for starting while you read the voltage. Loose connections are 90% of all problems. A blacken, burnt looking connection or wire means it overheated because of a loose connection.fix it!

Check tightnees on all the 12 volt connection.

If your getting power to the coil can the Crankshaft sensor prevent you from getting fire?

crankshaft sensoryes because if the ecm isn't getting a signal from the sensor it doesn't know at what orientation the crankshaft is and won't let the ignition system start the engine. that's how i understand it to work

Where is the crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 Chevrolet tracker?

on a 2002 Chevy tracker, it's behind the flywheel

On my 2002 2.0 4X4 Tracker built 11/2001 the sensor is actually on the back of the overhead cam near the last fuel injector. Also the part that most stores provide is not correct for mine. There is no sensor behind my flywheel. Make if there is no wire going into the belhousing then you will not have one behind the flywheel as indicated by a previous answer. I'm not sure if any actually had it there. No mechanic I spoke to knew of one in that location.

In my case change out is 5-10 minutes with one 10mm bolt. Mine did not have the 6" tail on it many show simply a right angle to the connector no wire pigtail whatsoever.

Location of the Camshaft Sensor on 5.9 liter Magnum V8?

The Cam sensor is the "pick up plate" in the distributor, under the cap.
