Actress Melina Kanakaredes, who had played Detective Stella Bonasera on "CSI: NY" since the series premiered on Sept. 22, 2004, decided to leave the series. She will be replaced in Season 7 by Emmy Award-winning actress Sela Ward ("Sisters," "Once and Again"), who will play a new character, former FBI agent Jo Danville.

The character of Alexx Woods played by Khandi Alexander does leave the show and returns some time later to appear in season 7, where we see that she is a part time Doctor at a hospital in Miami and in her words "the rest of the time I'm just Mom". However she had made no appearances as of yet in season 8.

The most recent episode of CSI was titled "Lying Down with Dogs". It is from season 8. It originally aired December 13th, 2007 and was episode number 175 in the series.
