This is an easy task but it can seem confusing since you do not have a key to turn, like on other models. As you know, when you start your RAV4 with a smart key, you have to step on the brake pedal when you press the start/stop button before it will crank. To reset or clear the maintenance light, you will NOT put your foot on the brake pedal when you press the start/stop button. So, with foot OFF the brake pedal, press the start/stop button, you may have to press it twice to get the dash lights to come on, then set the trip button for the odometer to TRIP A mode. (NOTE: you do not have to hold the start/stop button, just press and release it.) Now press the start/stop button again to turn off the dash lights after you have placed the odometer to TRIP A mode. Next you will press the trip button and HOLD IT IN and then press the start/stop button to turn the dash lights back on. You will see the odometer display flashing dashes, just keep holding the trip button until you see 00000 and then it goes back to normal readings and the maintenance light is off. That's it. I had this condition on my 1998 Grand Cherokee. I discovered that it was worn contacts on the headlamp / interior light dimmer assembly. I cleaned the contacts and it worked for awhile then the problem came back. I replaced the assembly for about $100 and the problem went away.
Answermy 97 limited did the same thing, as well as the headlights momentarily turning off (while driving) with the headlight switch switched to the "auto" mode -- bad contacts in the rotary knob and panel dimmer; ended up replacing the headlight switchI just had my 96 switch out took it apart found the soilder joints loose on the circuit board added a little soilder all better know. Had nothing to loose it was either do this or spend 100 bucks .

Hello I have a 1992 HYUNDAI EXCEL..just changed mine..but its a standard shift..first disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable..stops any airbag accidents..take pliers..DISCONNECT end at TRANI..run new speedo cable the same way the old one goes..pull out RUBBLER BLACK grommet behind DISTRIBUTOR CAP..this grommet stops water getting inside dash .Its under the hood inside firewall (behind distributor cap). NEXt undoes the 3-4 screws inside car that hold your plastic intrument gauges....pull out SLOW..behind it is WHITE plastic piece..SQEEZE together..this piece will release the old speedo cable..PULL this white plastic piece AWAY FROM YOU..it releases the old cable..its a difficult job..worse than u think, but it can be done..took me over an hour...the worse thing was trying to remove the WHITE plastic housing behind DASH guages..I was pulling it the wrong way..must be BACKED OFF away from you..GOOD LUCK
I would be concerned about the 4-wheel anti-lock (4WAL) braking system's "brain". It is called the electro-hydraulic control unit (EHCU). Take it to a mechanic you trust and ask them to pull codes. This is worth the money in most cases. If it is the EHCU it is going to be BIG BUCKS ($1000 - $1500 !!!) But if this is the problem and you don't fix it the brakes will just fail. The brakes wont fail Just the electronic side of the ABS The hydraulic system will work correctly with the ABS light on. If the light is on the ABS is in fault mode and is powered off, not working at all. No trouble! If the light is off it means the system is trying to work and may pulse the ABS pump

The EGR light comes on at 60,000 miles and again at 80,000 miles. It is a way Mazda attempts to get you into a dealer. There are two wires one green and one brown, one of these two will be plugged into a white plastic connector on a single wire. (Under the dash at the far left) unplug the green or brown and plug in the other wire. Problem solved, start the engine and the light will go out.

AnswerThe EGR valve recirculates exhaust gas to reduce combustion temperature and NOx emissions which are formed under high heat. The EGR system does not lower HC emissions.On the EGR valve is a pintle position sensor which provides data to the computer so it can detect proper operation. If the computer detects that the valve is not operating it will throw the EGR light, it is not simply a marketing scheme.
