Well, if the divorce goes through that's your first clue. Depending on how long they've been separated they may be over the bouncing back and forth stage, they may not. I would say if the separation was recent, or you notice him initiating contact with the ex when he doesn't need to for kids or financial issues that have to be dealt with, to be wary. If he only sees or talks to her when he has to then he's probably well on his way to moving on even if she was the one that initiated the divorce.

When an individual gets a divorce this is a great opportunity to get to know themselves and do some of the things they may have wanted to do for a long time. No matter how ugly a divorce can get there are always hurt feelings on both sides and some regrets. People make mistakes and may marry the wrong person or be madly in love, marry and then realize they have fallen out of love. Whatever the case may be this is a warning sign for you to take inventory on yourself so you have a better chance of not making a mistake again. The reasons are that eventually the young man will realize that he may have missed something out of his life and want to date other women. He has nothing to compare the older woman with because of the lack of experience. She may want to have peace and quiet and just do things together whereas the young man in question is full of vibrant energy and wants to 'move!' He may end up feeling cheated. Depending on how old the woman is (42 plus) is not a good time to be starting a family so if the young man wants to have children it's not likely to happen.
