The EGR valve is located right behind the intake elbow that directs air coming from the intercooler (charged air cooler) into the intake manifold. The valve is between this elbow and the fuel and oil filter housings (black caps in top middle of engine).

EGR values usually don't fail. Usually it is a wire broke or disconnected. This is what I have found. Some of the high school mechanics that work at professional garages tend to forget to hook these back up after doing something else to your car. A good mechanic (at aLincoln dealership) told me that if you have to replace the EGR valve, you probably have a much larger problem with the car (like the engine).

If you still need to replace this valve, I recommend going to an auto parts store, buy the valve. This way you know what you are looking for. On my 97 Lincoln, it was a couple of bolts and a wire or two. It was also located on the very top of the motor which was fairly convenient to work on. Keep ,your receipt so if you want to return it.

What I found, was my the doofus Ford mechanic forgot to plug it back on. I plugged it back on and my car ran great, so I returned the EGR valve.

Do you mean the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system? If so the EGR valve is located on the backside of the cylinder head under the hood cowl. Common EGR symptoms are rough idling,stalling at idle, rough engine performance during light throttle application, and stalling during deceleration. Hope this helps

Location of EGR valve is between the fire wall and the engine, under the intake, toward the rear or transmission end. Look for the rubber hose that runs from the air filter to the intake inlet. Look under the hose down to the right and you will see it attached to the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold is under the intake.

If EGR is leaking your car will idle poorly and the exhaust gas inlet tube will be really hot. You can test to see if its stuck shut by placing your finger on the diaphragm and rev the engine over 2k. The diaphragm should lift. If it doesn't lift the valve could be stuck. Remove vacuum line put 15 of vacuum to EGR at idle. Car should idle poorly or stall. If pass then check for vacuum at EGR vacuum line. Place vacuum gage on EGR line, rev fully warmed up engine to over 2k, you should get vacuum! If no pass, then check BPT valve and EGR|Canister solenoid. To check BPT remove EGR vacuum line put line from BPT to mouth, rev engine to 2k, it should suck. If you can blow\suck and it leaks the valve or exhaust line going to the bottom of valve is bad. To check solenoid rev warm engine to over 2k use mechanic's stethoscopes, should hear click. No pass, unplug and put 12v to solenoid, put solenoid vacuum line in mouth, blow\suck? Pass check continuity from solenoid to ECU. Everything working but still get EGR code remove Exhaust Gas Temp sensor. Place in hot water check with ohm meter should be big change between hot\cold temp sensor. ECU checks EGR by opening solenoid which should open EGR valve. When EGR opens hot gases hit temp sensor causing a change in resistance, ECU sees the change and then sets an EGR ok. If ECU opens EGR solenoid but there is no change in the Exhaust Temp sensor ECU sets the MIU light with EGR code.

It is located on the left side back for the engine looking from the front. Once u find it remove the two bolts and pull upward. Remove the gasget and use Carb cleaner to remove all the carbon deposits inside the EGR valve. This worked for me and i saved 110 dollars by not replaceing it. Works just like new.

Unburnt fuel

EGR valve is on the Back side of the intake manifold, close to the throttle body, right in the middle of the engine compartment.

This is generally the explanation when you get a PO401 check engine code. It is ussually caused when the carbon builds up in the channel leading from the EGR through and into the thottle body. Most of the time it can be fixed by cleaning the passage with a good carb cleaner and a wire pipe cleaner restoring the flow of air through the passage. Sometimes you might have the replace any one of the EGR Value, EGR Solinoid or the EGR Pressure Sensor. These can be costly, so begin with the cleaner. You may have to remove the thottle body face plate to gain better access to the channel.

It will be on the left side of the intake manifold, under the map senor.

If you want to locate a new egr valve, check with your local auto parts store. If you want to know where the egr valve is located on your vehicle, post the year and engine size of your S10.

Standing in front of the car: Straight ahead, on the very back side of the engine; before the firewall.

Depends the engine, it is usually on the side of the engine. On the VG30E it is on the drives side, and if you had the new part, or knew what it looked like, you would see it.

The EGR on the 97 merc is on the back left side on the intake near the firewall. I have had sucess with cleaning out the throttle body and pathway to the erg for clearing the MIL or check engine light for odb codes related to excessive and inexcessive flow rates in the egr. Open the hood and locate the air box for the air filter. Connected to this is a large semi flex tube with a clamp at each end. One at the air box and one at the throttle body. Just remove the clamps and push open the butterfly valve and spray out the insides with carb cleaner. Note, if you have low miles, under 100k, I would not recommend this, because they seal them with a coating and you may cause further problems. However, if you are like me you will have over 100k. I have 127k on mine. Don't start the vehicle right after this. Spray it out several times and and let if dry out. You can prop a screwdriver in the spring just to the right of the TB valve. It is tight to try to remove the egr in your driveway. One of the two screws is ok to remove and the other is very difficult with standard tools. If you wish to see what the egr looks like check out autozone or parts America web sites and search for egr and I know at least one of them has a picture of one.

Pcv valve is on the bottom sides of the intake plenum. Look under it by both strut tower locations and you should see two lower hoses that run right thru it. It screws right under the plenum...

this is likely the solenoid that controls the egr. follow the tiny hose attached to the egr back to a small electrical solenoid. that part is best bought at a junkyard if possible because it is expensive new.

The EGR is a 2 piece mechanism on this engine. Standing in front of the car -it is just to the right of the exhaust manifold. Almost at the top of the engine. It is gold anodized in color, about the diameter of the old fashioned silver dollars.

The EGR Valve is located on top of the intake manifold. If you are standing in front of the car it would be on your right hand side. It is cylinder in shape and has wire harness that connects to the back of the engine!

I changed mine by removing the battery. Then you can get your sockets and wrench into this space and take out the two bolts holding it on.
