EGR Systems

When the temperature in the combustion chamber becomes extremely hot, nitrous oxides are formed, which then turn into smog. In order to reduce such occurrence, the exhaust gas recirculation system minimizes the temperature in the combustion chamber.

Where is the EGR Valve in a Ford F-250?

They are usually on the valve cover. Trace the hoses from the carb since they are vacum actuated. 1 of those should lead you right to it. If you shake it & there is movement inside, it is good.

Amendment - by PayDayBill

The PCV Valve is located in the valve cover not the EGR. The EGR valve is located on a spacer block that is installed between the Carburetor and the Intake Manifold. It points to the back side of the engine behind the carb. The EGR will be visible once the air cleaner assembly is removed.

Why does exhaust gas recirculation pressure feedback sensor blow the hose off?

You have restriction in the exhaust somewhere and it's causing it to backflow.

Getting code P0400 - Where is the EGR valve on a 1997 MX6?

P0400 EGR FLOW MALFUNCTION is a blockage code, not a compenent failure. What the computer is letting you know is that something is preventing the EGR valve from opening and closing. A sensor mounted just above or near the EGR valve checks pressure to veryify that the EGR valve is indeed doing it's job. When the EGR failes to do it's job, that's when P0400 code surfaces. The typical cause of this code is cracked vacuum hoses or clogged hoses and or components with nasty carbon buildup inside of them. Each and every vacuum line to the EGR system needs to be checked! Carbon clogging also occurs inside the throttle body where the maze of vacuum lines originate. The task of unclogging those holes on the throttle body can become tideous, but needs to be performed in order to open up the vacuum flow. Rarely does a component failue throw a P0400 code, but when it does, it's one of three things. 1) EGR valve diaphragm is cracked and leaking vacuum, 2) The EGR plenumn sensor has failed 3)The amount of voltage getting to the sensor is not enough with a certain window, and will throw a P0400 code.

How do you remove EGR Valve 1995 Nissan altima?

Can an EGR valve cause shaking or hesitation?

EGR should turn on Service Engine light on 96 and later. The tube / pipe to the exhaust manifold can also become blocked.

EGR could cause rough engine. Many other possibilities.

Where is the EGR valve on 2005 Dodge Dakota?

This Dodge EGR valve is a certain kind of device that is mounted right on your intake manifold which controls the amount of exhaust gasses back into your engine. : On a 2005 Dakota with 4.7 liter engine (non-HO), the EGR valve is located near the intake manifold on the driver's side right up against the firewall. It's hard to spot as it sits lower than the intake manifold. : To change it, remove the electrical connector. There's a red tab that needs to be pushed to one side and then you have to squeeze down on a tab to get it free. Using a 13 mm socket, remove the bolt that you can see. I had to use a 3 inch wobble extention and then a 8 inch extension with a deep well socket to reach it with my 3/8 inch ratchet. : There's a second bolt that you can't see between the EGR valve and the firewall. With a little trial and error and a lot more luck, you can reach the hidden bolt with the 3 inch wobble extension and a 13 mm deep well socket. Attach the ratchet after the socket is on and remove. This one isn't easy and if there's any Dodge engineers reading this one, a couple of extra inches of clearance between the valve and the firewall wouldn't have killed you no matter what the cost accountants said. : With both bolts removed, you should be able to pull out the metal pipe that connects the manifold to the EGR valve out of the manifold (Pull to the right) and then you can lift the valve out. : For assembly, the metal pipe connecting the intake manifold the EGR valve has to be removed and reinstalled on the new valve. It's held on with 2 5/16th" bolts. You should put the rear bolt on tight, but leave the front bold loose for the reinstall as some adjustment is necessary to get it put back together and the rear is a pain to tighten when installed. : Line up the bolts that attach the valve and get the rear 13 mm bolt (The one you couldn't see on disassembly) started. Do not start the other 13 mm bolt as you'll need to pivot the valve and pipe to the left in order to reinsert the pipe into the intake manifold. Once the pipe is in the intake manifold. Start the other 13 mm bolt and tighten both 13 mm bolts and then the 5/16" bolts holding the pipe onto the valve. Reinstall the electrical connection. : Took me and a good friend about 2 1/2 hours. With these instructions, you should be able to do it in about an hour or hour and half. It's a major pain to change because of the tight space that the valve fits into and the less than generous clearances around the firewall. u find it dumbo

What is the egr?

The EGR, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve, is contained in the circuit on an internal combustion engine, is in place as an emissions reducing device. Exhaust gasses are routed back into the engine intake to be reburned, thereby reducing unburned hydrocarbon and noxious gas emissions. The system turns on and off at certain times, deemed critical by the engine manufacturer and the federal government mandates.

Smoke out of exhaust?

Color of smoke makes a difference, give us more details.

White smoke = Coolant entering the combustion chamber which normally means a blown head gasket cracked head or both.

Blue smoke = Engine is buying oil normally due to worn piston rings or other engine wear.

Black smoke = Overly rich fuel/air mixture.

Do the 2000 Chevy cavalier twin cam 2.4l carry egr valve?

How do you change the EGR valve on a 1996 Toyota Camry?

It is simple. It looks like a little flying saucer and is in the rear of the engine on top near windshield. It was first described to me as one pancake with one pancake underneath & on top of it. There are two hoses that plug into it from the exhaust, and one coming out, and one on bottom (total of 4)

A 1995 Toyota corolla automatic failed the low speed nox part of the Texas emission test what you can do to past this test Where is the egr valve and how do you clean it?

The EGR system has two main parts: EGR Vacuum Modulator and EGR Valve. The EGR Vacuum Modulator is easy to find at the top-rear of the engine. It is round and has several vacuum hoses attached to it. This part can be removed by twisting/pulling the hoses and sliding it out of it's bracket. There is a filter inside the top cap of the EGR Vacuum Modulator which can be cleaned with soapy water. Dry it thoroughly after cleaning. The EGR Valve, also round, is directly below the Modulator and connected to the modulator via a vacuum hose. It can be removed by removing two 13mm nuts, one vacuum hose and one electrical connector. The electrical connector simply unplugs. NOTE: There is a thin gasket between the valve and the head. Do not lose this. Once you have the EGR Valve removed, detach the tube with the phillips-head screw and then Unscrew the EGR Gas Temp Sensor (the part with the wire). Clean the EGR Valve with engine cleaner or carb cleaner or parts cleaner. Mine was FULL of thick oil/gunk. Clean the gasket, the temp sensor and the mating parts. Clean any gunk out of the hole in the head (a flexible mirror will help you see what's in there). Re-assemble everything. Don't forget to put the filter back into the Modulator. NOTE: The Modulator filter goes in with the smooth side down toward the ground. Reset your Check Engine fuse (15 Amp - located inside the under-hood fuse box).
