EGR Systems

When the temperature in the combustion chamber becomes extremely hot, nitrous oxides are formed, which then turn into smog. In order to reduce such occurrence, the exhaust gas recirculation system minimizes the temperature in the combustion chamber.

How do you change and EGR valve for the 2002 sport trac?

Locate it. It's on the end of a black hose which enters the engine. Pull on it and it should come out. Remove from hose. SHAKE IT. If it rattles then it is probably good. However, if you haven't changed it for a few years it is best to do so at this time. Take the old one into any auto store and they will sell you a new one. They are inexpensive. Go home and install it.
If you have difficulty with any of this you really need be making friends with a mechanically inclined person who can give you a crash course in auto basics. Also, you should probably stay away from air pumps and maybe gas pumps.

Were is the egr valve located on an Cummings isx engine?

Right side of the engine, in front of the EGR cooler and connected to it with through a bellows. Removing it.. depends on the make and model of truck. On the Kenworth T600, T660, T700, T800, etc., you have to remove the CAC hose and hose from the air cleaner to the turbo inlet. Then you remove the three bolts to take off the plate covering the EGR valve, remove the two EGR clamps (one to the left, connected to the bellows, and one at the top of the EGR), drain the coolant and disconnect the two coolant lines to the EGR valve, unplug the EGR valve, and remove it.

Zafira 1.6 egr problem?

This is a common problem. The best solution is to block off the EGR valve as you suspect and disconnect the sensor. I've done this with my 2002 Zafira and it cured the problem. The only downside is that starts are difficult now...but that is minor compared with the massive safety issue of the engine stalling. www.vauxhallownersnetwork.com is a good resource for doing this job yourself--you don't need a garage.

Why would a 1992 Mercury blow black smoke?

Black smoke is caused by an over rich mixture and normally occurs whenever the engine is working hard. Like going up a steep grade, being loaded heavy or during heavy acceleration. More black smoke can be observed when the vehicle is operated at higher altitudes because the air is thinner. A dirty air filter is also another cause of excessive black smoke. If black smoke is noticed while the engine is idling at low altitude or under normal driving conditions this condition should be diagnosed a.s.a.p. to prevent engine damage. bad rings or busted pisten you need anew motor

How do you test the gmc egr valve?

All you need to do is disconnect the vac hose where is meets the throttle intake housing (the one that goes from the EGR to the Carb) and plug it at the intake. Go for a ride and see if the problem still persists....(I'm assuming it it sluggish or almost choking when accelerating from a stop or going up a hill) If there's no problem any more, it is a faulty or stuck EGR and needs replacement.

My check engine light comes on in my 1999 Honda accord v6 and the code po1491 egr valve insufficient lift I have replaced the egr valve but the light continues to come on is there something else wrong?

Most likely the egr ports in the intake manifold are plugged. This requires the removal of the upper intake manifold. Then you can access the egr ports and clean them with a coat hangar and a power drill. The ports clog up as a result of poorthe poor fuel quality we get here in north america.Honda makes a speacial repair kit for these egr problems consisting of a neww egr valve intake gaskets and a metal tube that is inserted into the egr port to eliminate the build up of carbon deposits in the ports.Good luck.
