EGR Systems

When the temperature in the combustion chamber becomes extremely hot, nitrous oxides are formed, which then turn into smog. In order to reduce such occurrence, the exhaust gas recirculation system minimizes the temperature in the combustion chamber.

How do you change an EGR valve on a 1987 Caprice Classic A pic of the location wouldn't hurt either?

The EGR Valve is a little hose looking thing and is located against the firewall just slightly to the passenger side off center. Sorry I don't have a picture. Drive the car over to Autozone and tell them you need an EGR valve and ask where it is. They are really nice and will come out and show you. You will learn more if you go during a time when they are not busy. I haven't changed one in years but I remember that they aren't that bad on Chevy's.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

VDB

When looking under the hood from the front it's behind the Carb./TBI to the left. It's a diaphragm and there is a vacuum hose going to it from the solenoid. Mine needs a star-bit socket to get it out.

I don't know what model you are working on, but my EGR on a f250 is along the firewall high to the left of center. Good luck.

What is an egr cooler?

An EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Cooler is a heat exchanger installed in the EGR circuit. The EGR system recirculates exhaust back to the engine in order to reduce NOX (Nitrous Oxide) emissions. The cooler simply cools the exhaust gas prior to gas being reintroduced into the engine. By cooling the gas the combustion temperature is reduced and NOX also as NOX is formed at higher temperatures. Various cooler (heat exchanger) technologies are used by manufacturers, although tube and shell is the most common type used currently. Coolers will vary in size depending on the engine size and the emission standard the engine must comply with.

Is there a difference between EGR valve and EGR sensor in a 2004 dodge ram?

A valve can be defined as a device that regulates flow, based on its ability to open, close, or obstruct passages or galleries. Therefore, the valve should be the mechanical moving device that actually permits the exhaust gasoline vapors to re-enter the combustion chamber, and that should leave the EGR sensor to be an electrical component that measures the concentration of exhaust gases, and relays the information to the ECM or PCM which then controls the EGR valve itself, and regulating the exhaust gas flow in that manner. Basically: * EGR valve is the mechanical component that physically regulates gases * EGR sensor measures concentration of gases, and instructs the EGR valve how much to regulate Hope this helps!

Where is the EGR valve located on a 2005 dodge Ram 1500 V8 4.7?

It is on the very back of the block on the driver side, it is a little below the intake manifold.

Your 2001 Mazda tribute check engine light is on and just started jerking while driving Sometimes acts like it doesnt want to shift Check Engine Light flashes when this happens Any answers?

The ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. You will need to retrieve the fault code from the ECU with an OBD2 scan tool. Use that code to narrow down the problem. Remember the code only indicates what part is being effected. It takes skill an knowledge to diagnose the actual cause. Do not just throws parts at the problem. Know exactly what is wrong before buying a part. If you do not have the skill to repair this then spend the money it takes to seek professional help. You will be money ahead of just replacing parts at random.

Where is the EGR valve on a 98 Cavalier?

Answer
I purchased an EGR valve for my 2000 Cavalier and couldn not find it either. So I went to autoparts house and they looked to no avail. Then went to dealer who also could not find it. Hmmmmmmm, alas it does not have one. Why? Well, it is my understanding that certain government vehicles do not require one. Was mine one of them. I don't know. But I can tell you that all EGR valves are bolted to the manifold, and for cavaliers it is typically on the drivers side of the engine. Good luck with this one.

Not all cars have an EGR valve, government or not. It depends on the engineering designs of how cool the engine runs, and how much NOx is produced under load. If not a lot is produced in the first place, the converter would likely take care of it nicely.
some years makes models did not have one.

such as the 1992 3.8L engines for example

and others.

government has nothing to do with it. some of these engines with the pollution controls they were built with put out acceptable levels of nox and otrher gases low enough to not warrant the need of an egr valve.

How do you replace the EGR valve on a 1996 Isuzu Trooper?

OK here it goes: The EGR valve is a cylindrical unit above the engine. It would be behind the throttle body. It will have a cable connected to it. Unplug the cable. There two bolts. Simply remove. An that is all there is to it. Simply put the new EGR valve in its place, screw in the bolts and reconnect the cable. Make sure to see a gasket. The gasket can stick to either the EGR valve or the throttle body. It does come off easily but since it is metallic, it looks like it part of the throttle/egr valve. Make sure to install the new EGR valve with a gasket. I have read that using the old one is OK.

Is any programming or additional adjustments needed after a new egr valve is installed in a 2000 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder?

No but if there is still an EGR valve problem then its the EGR Valve switch located at the back of the motor. I replaced my EGR valve 2 times before I figured out it was the electrical switch, which had burnt up, for the egr valve. I havent had a problem with the EGR since then..
