I would suspect the fuel pressure regulator.

Right front corner of engine, above alternater.

Near the front of the intake manifold, you will see the EGR valve. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the two 10 mm head bolts, remove the lead coated gasket from the intake. Be sure to clean the surface of all evidence of the gasket, using care to not get any into the intake. Place the new gasket on the EGR valve, using the bolts to keep it in place, put the new EGR on the intake. Tighten the bolts up evenly, plug the connector back in, and Rock and Roll.

If the engine is smothe at lower speeds it probably is the tcc in the torque convertor. The egr and pcv both are on the upper engine behind the throtle body on your 3.8 engine.

The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You may want to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.

EGR VALVE IS LOCATED NEXT TO THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE AT THE ENGINE, IT CAN CAUSE ENGINE TO MISS, STALL AND SURGE.

I just replaced the EGR on my 1997 Toyota Camry 4cl and it was about $300, the downside is that I purchased a part with only a 6mo warranty and at 7 mo it went out again...

Remove the positive battery cable from the battery. When you put it back on it should reset the computer and see if the light goes out the next time you start the car. On 1996 model cars/trucks, you cannot just remove the battery. It will return fast. They use no-volitile memory now and have to be cleard in two ways. Use an OBD-II code reader to clear. If problem returns, then there is still something wrong in the Emission area. The code reader when it gave the code you have presented, should have given brief description, If memory serves me correct for Ford/Mercury, this is related to one of two things. Purge Canister failure, or Purge Valave / Relay assy. The other way to clear the computer after replacing what is believed to be the problem is the engine has to be cycled, (started) 10 to 15 times from cold to full warm condition. i.e. you will have to start car, let it warm up, then let it cool down, and recycle this many times. It is best to take it two a shop and see if they will clear the codes for you, or locate a parts store and see if they carry the OBD-II reader/diag unit. I paid $129.00 for mine. Has save $100's in shotgunning parts.

The engine doesn't need to be running. Just turn on the keyswitch with the code scanner connected.

These engines do not have EGR from 1996 to 2004, due to being able to pass without it. EGR returned in 2005.

Typically the EGR valve is not the only problem.
If you'll examine the exhaust gas passages when you have the EGR valve out of the engine, you'll notice that an older vehicle typically has quite a bit of built up deposits on the inside of the passages. These need to be cleaned at least sufficiently to allow the free flow of exhaust gas.
Sometimes the cleaning process can be more time consuming than replacing the EGR valve.
And SOMETIMES, you don't even need to replace the EGR valve; the problem can simply be the buildup of deposits.

The 7.3 diesel does not any EGR! i said 6.0

It's behind the manifold on the driver side

The PCV valve on the 4.9L I6 engine is nearly impossible to see. It is located at the top of the valve cover near the rear of the engine forward a few inches from the center of the firewall. It is easier to see and reach it if you use a step stool.

just right of the exhaust manifold. little black rubber pipe/elbow connects to it.

If you are facing the engine from the front of the vehicle, the EGR valve is located to the right hand side of the engine compartment, mounted behind the air intake/trottle body assembly. It is bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the rear of the lower intake manifold.

The cost for an IAC valve varies based on the car. Generally, it will cost between $30 and $60, depending on where it is bought.

If you're having problems with your cruise control, I would suggest that you check into your Subaru's transmission and engine error codes to see what it's returning if anything. Many times the problem with the cruise can be diagnosed by the vehicle itself. The car will not allow the cruise control to function if it knows about a specific problem, which will be given in the error codes. I don't know what year subaru you have, but look into getting both the engine (check engine light) error codes and the transmission (power light) error codes on your Legacy to see what they're returning. My speed sensor was out on my Subaru. Once I found the problem in the error codes, I swapped it out and my cruise worked just great.

Go to autozone they will print you out one.

A bad EGR valve in a 2000 Saturn can have several symptoms. The EGR valve can cause misfires, the valve can cause vacuum leak style problems. There could also be an engine knock.

It is on the back of the intake manifold, behind the throttle body.

Rear driver side of engine.

If it is the 4.6 V8 then it is located on the top left side at ther rear of the motor behind the intake manifold and fuel injector assy. It is a dificult unit to remove on this motor. ....Good Luck Run1
