6th of December, The Independence Day, is a very traditional day in Finland.

In Helsinki Observatory Hill at 9 am is a solemn flag-raising session with speeches. There is a worship in Helsinki Cathedral, and people visit the war graves. At the Independence Day there is also a national military parade, and some of university students have a torchlight procession. People also light two blue and white candles from 6 pm to 8 pm.

At the evening there is a big celebration reception at the Presidential Palace. Usually the invited persons are the most famous people of Finland, and a set of ordinary citizens. Traditionally there are the government, parliament, ambassadors, veterans, athletes, artists, scientists and some guests invited by the president.

Well first of all, it's actually a Bear Dog. Specifically, a Karelian Bear Dog, regarded as a national treasure in its home country of Finland. They earned their name by being so aggressive that they will put a bear to flight or attack it, often sacrificing their life for their master. Their naturally fearless nature makes them ideal for hunting wild boar, lynxes and wolves, as well as providing protection from wild bears. The breed is currently being used for bear control programs in the United States at the Yosemite and Glacier National Parks.

Norway, and Finland are the only two of these with are a above the arctic circle. Norway, however, stretches hundreds of miles further north. Ukrain is by far the furthest south.
