if you are mechanically inclined you can purchase a repair manual and it should walk you through, if not you may need a auto shop replace it, it isn't that hard but does require some skills and make sure you read the procedures before starting. if you are going to do this yourself you may want to replace your timing chain and gear as you will be right in the vicinity of this and this is speaking from experience, I did the water pump and 1 year later i did the timing chain and had to remove the pump to get to it.

The Largest engine that will fit the motor mounts in a 1988 Ford Bronco is a 351 Windsor engine. You can get custom motor mounts and what not to fit any engine, but it takes some creativity and welding. I have a 460 engine in my 1988 Bronco, but it took quite the time to fit it in.

Most cars have a steering wheel lock that is connected to the key--try wiggling the wheel back and forth while turning the key all the way back to 'off' and pulling it ou. Also, some cars (Nissans, for sure) have a button near the key that you need to push in while you pull the key out. If the car is an automatic, is it in Park? I don't think you can pull the key out when it is in Park, so if triedd my first two ideas, and the shifter is in Park, then perhaps something is wrong with the transmission. ...like it won't let you put it in Park. I'm not sure why that would be. (I like standard transmissions.)

The whining sound may be the bearings in the alternator and they may be seizing up or draging and possibly your belt is slipping on the pulley. Do you have a voltage gauge in your instrument panel? Or just a warning light like a picture of a battery?

You have a mis-alignment in your continueum transfunctioner. This could be caused by pre-mature jumps to light-speed or by the unathorized dump of waste management facilities while in light-speed propulsion mode. To correct this problem, simply uncoil the flux capacitor until all 21.1 gigiwats are discharged... touch your battery terminals together... then, recoil the capacitor and re-engauge the hyperlink drive assembly. If this does not fix the problem, then you need a new warp core... sorry dude...

I'm not sure what you mean by what size, but if you are talking about how many speeds, I believe the early 1988 Broncos came with a 3-speed transmission and the later 1988s came with a 3-speed with overdrive. Most of the information I've found online shows that the 1988 came with the 3-speed, but I own a 1988 (it was built towards the end of 1988) and it has the 3-speed with overdrive.
