Start checking out your engine and transmission mounts. Check the rubber to make sure it isn't torn.

If the bushings wear enough (usually are 95% of the squeaking problems) the front wheel alignment can change and can wear the tires faster if not make the vehicle pull to one side of or the other.

There are rubber bushings on the bolts that attatch to the frame that keeps some of the vibration and noise down. They can dry out or harden and can either fall out or twist enough to wear metal to metal.

That is a wide open question, but I will give it a shot. Does the engine turn over? If not, check the battery, the cables, the connections, the starter relay, the starter motor. Make sure you have a programed key and not a copy. If the engine turns over... check the fuses for your fuel pump and ignition. Pull out a plug to make sure if you are getting gas, (plug should be very wet and smell like gas). If it is dry, check your fuel pressure, and voltage to the fuel pump, and your fuel lines and filter. Use a scan tool to check your engine for codes. If your check engine light came on while you were driving it, the computer could go to limp home mode, and allow the engine to run on default perameters until you turn it off. Then it won't start. Your cam or crank position sensors going bad could cause this. The other element you need is compression. If plumes of smoke were coming out your engine and you ignored it until it would no longer start, this is probably your problem and requires major engine repair. Check for water or gas in your oil, that is also a good indication of a serious problem. You need spark, fuel, and compression, at the right mixture and timing to make an engine run, that is the basic start for troubleshooting.

when you remove the cover and see how much slap is in the chain at this point you will be glad you did......you must remember this is an American car not a crappy import, the engine will not like a broken or jumped tooth if it wears out, like an import with a belt they have tolerences that might allow for a broken belt to allow you an engine that just needs to be retimed and have a belt put on, but your awesome mustang has a real valvetrain and as the chain stretches your timing gets outta whack a bit, not a big deal but at the same time at this point since you would have the water pump off too, id change that too!

It would be on the transmission pan if there is one. But I don't think the Escape has one. Nope, doesn't have one. You have to pull the transmission pan. Then you can get to the filter as well.
