Probably sheer age. There are two things that can leak in the areas you refer to. First of course is that valve cover gasket. If it is leaking its no great challenge to replace it. If you are not mechanically inclined then take to to a competent garage and have it done. Of more difficult note is the camshaft seal which is at the top of the engine and a bit more difficult to replace. Once again you will probably want to have that done at a good garage. Best of luck.

It isn't possible. You'll need to have the transmission rebuilt.

Begin by loosening the tensioner pulley. Take the old air conditioning drive belt on. Put the new air conditioning drive belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think it is about an inch above the oil filter, there is a wire connected to it, and it goes into the motor

What kind of wiring diagram are you looking for? Engine, radio, lights etc.

about 150 INCH/pounds.... Or 12 ft/lbs torque.... not very much just snug them all up little by little..... then tighten each one a bit more with regular ratchet wrench starting in the middle and working out to both ends. final torque is 12 ft/lbs... reinstall valve cover. Now the important part. You must wait about a half hour before you start the car... If you don't you may shove a valve right down onto a piston.... The lifters need time to settle.

Where is the tensioner

Luckily in the Geo the valves never travel down far enough for the piston to hit it so even with the timing belt broken its safe you can crank the car over til your blue in the face with out hurting anything.

In the few rare cases that you would need the lights off while engine on, you can lift the parking brake one click. It won't engage the brake but will cut the lights. If you mean the headlights, this is a safety feature of the Chevrolet and many other cars and should remain intact. There is no switch to throw to shut these off.

rotor, take on wire of old at a time and put on new one. Then take off two bolts and then put new one in place of it. Make sure you mark old one as to how it was on, to make sure new on is the same way. Brake rotor, take tire off. There should be two bolts on the back of brake. Remove. Then whole unit should come off. The remove rotor. May be some bolts, or just ready for removal. Probable going to be rusted in place if there are no bolts to remove. Use a plastic hammer, or even a peice of wood and hammer.Put on new one, and put all back together.

You have to remove the instrument cluster. Easy job to do if you're the least bit handy with a Phillips head screwdriver.

The turn signal flasher is located on the backside of the fuse block underneath the dash above the area where the drivers left leg goes. To access the flasher you will need to remove the two 10mm bolts holding the fuse block in place and gently pull the fuse block down to be able to get to the flasher which is rectangular; aprox 1" X 1.5" that plugs into a socket on the backside of the fuse block.

The throttle body injection is non adjustable and controlled by the pcm (computer) the throttle position sensor or TPS is adjustable but is normally set correctly at the factory. If you have changed it, there should be instruction on how to reset it properly

It has 1 O2 sensor located on the exhaust manifold befor the catalytic converter

Locate the core key of your car. The core key is used to withdraw the cylinder or core from the lock housing. Insert the key into the core and turn is slowly about 10 degrees and remove the key to pull the housing. Install the new cylinder.

Seems the problem was that spark plug was arcing from the OUTSIDE of the rubber on the plug wire to the block. Yes I said the rubber part. Dont know why this only happened at idle, or only when car warm. Repaired the wire, planning to replace ASAP. Hope this helps someone else. Weird part of all this is engine never seemed to be missing, and if you dropped it in neutral while power loss engine would rev strong (no miss). Dunno. Thanks Faqfarm. Great site. S

Sounds like you've got a couple of blown fuses. Check in particular the ECM start fuse in the fuse box inside the car on the drives sided kick panel. It should be a red 10 amp fuse.

Also, we have this car and at times, when the oil level gets too low, it will turn but not start. Adding oil and pumping the gas while starting always gets it going again.

my 1997 Geo Metro acts the same way, I was able to figure out that it was a fuel problem because I sprayed some carburetor cleaner into the air filter compartment and it started, it would keep running as long as I kept spraying. I mentioned it to a mechanic friend and he suggested I replace the fuel pump relay. Based on my own experience with other cars, when its time to replace the relay it is usually time to replace the fuel pump too, because it might be starting to have a problem that causes the relay to overload.
