Grades are assigned through application of standardized measurements rated by in letters (A to D), a range (example 1 to 6), a percentage of total number correct (example 70%), or as the number from of a possible total (example 50 out of 50). At predetermined set times through a school year, grades from subjects are averaged to give a Grade Point Average (GPA). The Cumulative Grade Point Average is the average of all grades over an educational life or specific for the total 4 years of high school.

It probably will depend more on the scores you receive on the entrance exam that you take before admission--it is different than the SAT or ACT you took before your undergraduate year. Find out which one they require and take it. They may require additional courses with improved grades before admission into a masters degree program.

You will get it back as a semester GPA but never for your cumulative GPA. Let's say you get all A's next semester....you will have a 4.0 GPA for that semester but your cumulative GPA will be different. I suggest shooting for the highest grades possible because even though you won't get your 4.0 cumulative GPA back, you will raise your GPA above a 3.5.
Also, do not be so down on yourself. A 3.5 GPA is still pretty good and after you graduate and start looking for jobs, GPA doesn't really matter at all. Get involved with clubs and honor societies....employers love that!

It depends on the grading scale. Using a 4 point unweighted scale: No. Each class is of equal value. You can't weight your honors classes to push you over the four point oh mark. Using a 5 point weighted or unweighted scale: Yes. Some schools use this grading scale where instead of 4 being the highest, 5 is highest. Since 5 is the highest, you can definitely get higher than a 4. Using a 4 point weighted scale: Yes. If you have some honors classes, they will be weighted, which means they count for more. It is possible that by weighting your classes, you might have over a 4.0. Usually if it is above, it is not drastically above, but it is by a little bit.
