If you are asking, are Great Danes allergic to cedar, the answer is no, they are not. Cedar is a great natural bug repellent. Many good brand dog beds (Kirkland) contain cedar. However, your question poses a few more questions. A Great Dane is a delicate creature. They cannot withstand extreme temperatures, not cold, not hot, therefore, a dog house throws me off. Are you housing the Great Dane outside? Is the house temperature controlled? A Great Dane should be in the human's house. I use blankets - king size and queen size folded several times to make something soft enough for my light weight - 116 female to lay on. You may have to put several layers to make it acceptable.

Idea: I have resorted to: Crib mattresses.They are cheap when purchased at the thrift stores - $10 - $20. You are recycling. You can also purchase the crib sheet and put one on the bottom and the top to protect the mattress from the floor. It can be cleaned with bleach because they have a plastic surface. I can take the bedding off and wash it. They can take the weight of the dog OR human OR both. My husband and I both cuddle our Danes on their respective beds. We lost our seats on the couch to the dogs and had to finish a movie on the dog bed. When the deal for dog beds comes along we purchase (Costco) but the deal of the century was the crib mattress. I throw a blankie (also from the thrift store) and viola! they are all set for quite some time.

I would not use cedar chips because dogs love to chew and eat everything, he would probably eat it and get it in his eyes, nose etc.

Danes are loyalty pets, and dont bite anybody if not necesary. His head is large and massive, that means a goo quota of powe!

Well my great dane st.bernard mix dog bob barks out the window and there is nothing there and then whatever it was it goes away. Oh and he was barking as if there was someone in the driveway. I heard this from animal planet dogs 101 and i think it could be true. The Great Dane is being the dominant dog, or the Alpha. In wolf packs, the hierarchy goes-

The Alpha wolves always eat first after a kill and get however much food they want. The rest of the pack must come up to the Alpha and beg for food. Your Great Dane feels challenged when your female mutt comes up to eat without asking permission, and he is showing his dominance to remind her of her position in the pack. 1. Establish dominance with the Great Dane and your Mutt. Have everyone else in the household establish dominance as well. Do your best to show your Great Dane that he is equal or of lesser rank than the female.

2. Feed them in separate places (but this will only cure the fighting while they are eating).

3. Allow the Great Dane to establish dominance. (This is NOT a good idea and should not be tried unless the Great Dane will not stop attacking the dog.

Absolutely. Especially if you are responsible and walk or excersice your Dane in the morning and evening. Danes are dogs who will wait for their owner, while sleeping or until he/she returns home. I lived in a 400 sq ft studio with myself, my love, and our Great Dane. He loved it, as he could see me no matter where I was in the apartment. We later moved to a large house with a large yard and our Dane would become restless and follow me from room to room just to be near me. He also would not stay in the back yard unless his humans were there with him.

Is this done when you leave or when your home? If it is happening when you leave, it could be a sign of separation anxiety. Some dogs and cats potty in places they shouldn't when they are left alone. If this problem continues, you can try kennel training your pet. When you leave, kennel your pet. Immediately on your return let the dog out to take care of business. Do not come back in until it is done. If you are home when this is done, pay attention at to the time it is done. Like humans, dogs tend to have to potty at the same time each day, so it is easy to get their schedule down. Old dogs can learn new tricks. This is not an impossible task, but will take persistence on your part. When I begin training a dog or puppy I take them outside only to go potty. When they do, I praise them and immediately take them indoors. This way they know outside is the place to potty. When they get the hang of this, and it doesn't take long, I take them out and let them play a bit, but still take them out every couple of hours. Soon you will be able to have more time between and eventually they will get the hang of it. Just remember this, kenneling your dog is not cruel. Most of the time dogs just lay around in one place all day anyway. Have patience and whatever you do never, and I mean never rub your pets nose in it. I can't believe people actually think this kind of training is acceptable.

You will have to buy multiple collars for this dog. There is not a collar that can be that small then get that big. Buy some cheaper ones when the dog is a puppy since he wont be wearing them long. Once he hits about full size buy a better quality collar so it will last longer.
