Peary Land in northwest Greenland is an Arctic Ocean-bounded peninsula whose low precipitation qualifies it for polar desert status. Only five percent of Peary Land tends to be covered by such sparse vegetation as 33 species of flowering plants. It will receive annual precipitation in the form of 25 to 200 millimeters (0.98 to 7.87 inches) of snow and therefore satisfies the physical geography definition of desserts as recipients of less than 250 millimeters (9.84 inches) of precipitation per year.
