Many people used to believe that owls swooped down to eat the souls of the dying. If they heard an owl hooting, they would become frightened. A common belief was that if you turned your pockets inside out, you would be safe. People also believed in running in circles to protect themselves from the owls.

HOWEVER, in Nevada it is on the 30th due to the fact that the states birthday is on the 31st, and due to the increase of drunk drivers on that day (a state holiday) trick or treating is moved IN NEVADA ONLY to the 30th.

The Chinese have a sort of "Halloween" called Yue Lan, or The Festival of Hungry Ghosts. This festival involves giving food and gifts to the spirits of deceased relatives to ward them off. And before you say, "Oh, that's strange," keep in mind that Samhain - the pagan festival that Halloween gets most of it's roots from - began on many of the same traditions.

the celtics were the ones who created halloween. they didnt do this on purpose it was actually just a festival of the end of summer called samahain. but there was a speacial day that the celts would dress up as a scary monster to scare away the bad spirits. so it used to be evil but as the years grew on it became something fun for children!

Belgium celebrates the same way as we do in the Western world - but Halloween took a long time to catch on in Central Europe. Belgium, Italy, and Holland (just to name a few) do observe Halloween, though many of the elderly don't understand or know what it is.

There are many things one can do with a pumpkin after Halloween has passed. Host a pumpkin smashing party, compost it, pickle the rind of eat the flesh.

Since there are 365 days in an average year and today is October 24th and since Halloween is October 31st every year, we have 7 days until Halloween and one year on top of that will make this (365+7) or about 372 days until Halloween of 2014. Yes we participate - I'm not sure we celebrate it. The 5th of November is our main celebration when Guy Fawkes was stopped blowing up the Houses of Parliament - which I'm sure nowadays, would be a celebration if he DID!!!!

In the beginings of Halloween,it was believed on a certain day of the year,evil spirits will come to the world of the living.Because of that,people wore costumes and masks to disguise themselves as other spirits.

2009 was the last time it did. Last time before that was 1998. 1992 was the last time before that, and the last time I was young enough to go trick-or-treating when it occurred on a Saturday. 1987 was the last time before that. And 1981 was the last time before that.

I still do, and I'm 13. I usually like to go with my friend and my cousin and then have a sleepover afterwards, but we can't do that if its a Sunday becuz of school the next day. it depends where you live, but some townships have Halloween on a Friday or Saturday instead, but most just keep it the original date. so my advice, still go trick or treating, but don't stay out late. maybe start at 5 or 6 and end at 8 or 9? whatever you want, but make sure you will be ready for school on monday.

A few hundred years ago to scare the evil spirits and demands that appear on October,31. To scare them away kids and adults would celebrate All Hallows Eve and would walk around door to door passing out treats to celebrate the demands ect. leaving and going back to hell. I went a little overboard but that is why children dress up on halloween.- BZP
