Can you marry on All Saints day Nov 1?

Yes, you can. But marriages are not permitted during Great Lent, and at certain other times, such as during the Dormition Fast (between 1-15 August), or during part of the Advent Fast (between 13 December and Christmas Day) or on strict fasting days, such as 5 January (Eve of Theophany) and 29 August (Beheading of St John) and 14 September (Holy Cross day). It is best to speak with your local priest or bishop in case there are any other dates that might apply to your diocese.

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate Halloween?

This question does not just refer to Jehovah's Witnesses.

Halloween is seen by all Christians as a pagan festival that celebrates all that is evil. Whilst in the USA (especially) and increasingly in the UK, many see nothing wrong in dressing up as witches, ghouls, and anything particularly nasty, the question is this:

If, say, a paedophile had some badge of honour or some dress code that immediately identified him/her as a paedophile, would you be happy dressing up your own children in such clothes as a celebration of all thet the paedophile thinks and does?

I guess not. Yet many parents see nothing wrong in dressing up their children in ghoulish clothes, witches' costumes, and generally anything that symbolises the opposite of that which is good and wholesome. Pagan beliefs speak out against God and all that God, in his ultimate goodness, stands for, and yet in the USA especially, a country that boasts a high proportion of churchgoers, this very paganism and evil is celebrated. Parents also see nothing wrong with sending their children out 'trick or treating', which is, let's face it, legalised blackmail, and teaches children that it is OK to make threats to get what you want.

Many would say that the Halloween celebrations are 'harmless' but most Christians would disagree. Most Christians love a party - at Christmas, Easter, birthdays and so on (despite Jehovah's Witnesses not allowing them) and that is right and proper - as Jesus himself loved having a good time with his friends and those to whom he ministered, but the celebration of a Godly festival is one thing, but the celebration of all that is evil is not just dangerous and harmful, it is plain wrong. And that is why the Christian Church is against Halloween and always will be.

How does Russia celebrate Halloween?

Just like the rest of the world does, by dressing up in costume.

However, a recent USA Today article stated that Russian government is hoping to ban Western holidays because of their bad influence.

"Russia is opening a new front in its battle with the West over last month's fighting in neighboring Georgia: a move to ban the Western holidays of Halloween and Valentine's Day as bad influences on the nation's youth.

The State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, will consider a measure this month to guard students from what the government considers destructive Western influences, such as the two festive celebrations that are growing more popular in Russia."

Did Celtic people believe that evil spirits were present on Halloween?

It is widely believed that Celts celebrated the first Halloween.

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celtic new year was celebrated on November 1 and they believed the night before, October 31, the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when the ghosts returned, by building bonfires and wearing costumes.

Is it bad to celebrate Halloween on a Sunday?

it depends on what you believe in some people think its good some people think its bad

'Nothing is every truly good or evil but thinking makes it so.' If you use Halloween to accomplish good things then it is a good thing. If you use Halloween to promote evil things than Halloween is evil.

the same can be said of a pillow. If you use a pillow to get a good night sleep then a pillow is a good thing. If you use a pillow to kill somebody then a pillow is a bad thing.

It appears that somebody is trying to shift responsibility for his/her actions onto innocent objects and festive holidays.

What does a Jack-o-Lantern symbolize?

"On Hallows' eve, the ancient Celts would place a skeleton on their window sill to represent the departed. Originating in Europe, these lanterns were first carved from a turnip or rutabaga. Believing that the head was the most powerful part of the body, containing the spirit and the knowledge, the Celts used the "head" of the vegetable to frighten off the embodiment of superstitions...The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America[14] where pumpkins are both readily available and much larger- making them easier to carve than turnips. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their doorstep after dark."
