Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

How to replace head gasket on Vauxhall Astra 16i 8V l 94 Plate?

I think a step by step guide is beyond the scope of the faq farm. It's a reasonably straightforeward job but involves slacking and removing the cambelt from the cam sprocket. Then unbolt the head and lift off after coolant draining and removal of the inlet manifold and exhaust.Best to buy a haynes manual or borrow one from local library for a week.Geoff.

Why does air blow out of the accumulator instead of sucking the air in with the compressor engaged?

Assuming that nothing has been changed you're not looking at the accumulator. The aluminum cylinder on the output side of the compressor is a muffler designed to prevent hammering from the compressor being audible in the passenger compartment.

How do you remove the fan clutch?

If there is a big nut on the fan shaft where it connects to the water pump go to Autozone and ask them to rent the water pump wrench set (you get the money back when you return the tools). The big spanner wrench goes around the four bolt heads on the water pump pulley and the other smaller wrench goes on the big nut then just unscrew the nut. If you don't have the nut on the pump shaft just remove the four bolt from the water pump the fan shaft will come off the pump.

What causes an AC evaporator to freeze up on a car when the AC is cooling great on normal cool?

Dirty condenser coils or low of refrigerant. I need to elaborate a little more. System is not low of refrigerant. 2000 RPM high side pressure is around 310 psi low side pressure is around 17 psi. A/C cools great, but compressor never disengauges and evaporator freezes up. Condenser is clean on the outside. I'm thinking that something may be stopped up. Expansion valve maybe? Or is it just a switch? I doubt that it's because of low refrigerant! I'd check the cycling switch first...

How would you know whether water pump or thermostat is the cause of overheating?

generally, water pumps leak when defective but still pump water. could be thermostat, plugged radiator, loose belt, low coolant

answer if pump is not leaking, get engine to running temp and remove radiator cap look in to see if water is circulating if water is circulating it is not the pump i would change thrmostat then check radiator cap

Where is the radiator cooling fan relay?

Radiator fans turn on when temperature gauge near overheating?

radiator fan is supposed to turn on before over heating to draw more air thru radiator and over engine to assist with cooling if fan is not turning on soon enuff , you need a new lower temp fan switch

Why won't 2002 Ranger blow air out dash or floorboard vents only out defrost vent?

Most likely cause is that one or more of the motors controling the blend air doors have failed. Another possible problem is something fell into the defrost vent and is blocking the door from closing. If air is only coming out of the defrost vent for all vent positions, then you likely have a vacuum line that is broken or the vacuum reservoir (3" ball mounted near right front of engine compartment) is cracked or leaking. Try removing the lines from the reservoir and connecting them directly (to check the reservoir integrity).

Why doesn't the engine cooling fan run?

Several things may be the cause ...... fan no longer works, cooling fan relay no longer works, coolant temp sensor is bad, or maybe even the cars ECU is'nt telling the fan to come on. Ron J.

Need to know how to replace a fan blower motor for the ac in a 1994 Chevy 12 ton pickup?

The blower motor can be changed from under the hood on the passenger side. It is located there next to the fender well and has 1 wire or connector to the motor, a vent/cooling hose in the bottom of it and a grnd wire under one of the screws that hold it in place. I think there are 3 screws, take them out and the blower and motor should pull out easily. Remove the nut on the shaft and the fan wheel should pull off the shaft, allowing access to the nuts that hold the motor to the plate or the new motor will have a built on plate.

How does air conditioning in a car work?

How to make certain a heating and cooling reversing valve is working correctly?

If this is a reversing valve on a heatpump all you need do is to find out if you are getting voltage to the solenoid on the reversing valve. The solenoid is energized in either the heating or cooling mode, depending on the unit and normally receives its voltage from the orange wire from the thermostat.

If you have no voltage to the solenoid in the cooling mode, switch it over to heat. If you still have no voltage, the solenoid or the control board is bad and needs to be replaced. If you have voltage, the valve should make a swooshing noise when the unit is switched from heat to cool/cool to heat. No swoosh, valve is bad.

*First, if there is no voltage to the solenoid, then the problem does not necessarily lie in the solenoid, but from the source of its power: a relay, a control board, etc...

*Second, the statement, "No swoosh, valve is bad" is common terminology used by people who don't completely understand how heat pumps and reversing valves operate. The "swoosh" is the refrigerant rushing sound heard when the slider inside the valve shifts positions. The slider is operated by discharge pressure from the unit's compressor. If the unit is low of refrigerant it might not have enough discharge pressure to make the slider shift, therefore no "swoosh" sound.

A lot of reversing valves and compressors have been needlessly replaced by individuals who don't know what they are doing.

What happens if you inhale freon?

Well from my experience at first when you inhale it your voice goes really deep kinda like the opposite of helium and then you get dizzy and your whole body feels as if it's throbbing and you feel all tingly on the inside or you feel like your insides are vibrating and your vision gets all messed up like it distorts reality and you can barely maintain your balance so you sometimes collapse to your knees and for my aftereffects I felt all giggly and like laughing alot but still it's not safe to inhale freon so do it at your own risk.

How cool is Shakespeare?

Shakespeare is absolutely cool. One of the reasons for that is that you can find every kind of person you are likely to meet in Shakespeare's plays. Another reason is that very cool things happen in the plays: murders, supernatural visitations, sneaky plots, love affairs, women disguised as men, insanity, musicians singing songs, just for a start.
